We have two of these as Christmas gifts. Has anyone done these?

My husband and I played a similar game on Saturday night. It was brilliant, really good fun! We enjoyed it so much we've bought another one.

Following as I love this kind of thing.

Me and DP do these ALL the time! They're really good! We do them as a couple and have done them in a group. We mainly do the cryptic killer ones (from MenKind/WH Smiths/Temu) but got a few others for Christmas.

Yes! Have done similar in the past and I have bought one of these to do.

I wouldn't be buying this sort of thing from Temu (or anything from Temu to be fair), it will be cheap shite, badly written and with mangled grammar and solutions.

My advice having done them before is that when you open the envelope there is so much paper it's a bit overwhelming. Divide it up between the players, let everyone read through the info they have and then start to discuss.

Escape Room in an Envelope

Designed for groups of up to 8 people, these games are an at-home escape room that you can play from your own table! Each game includes 9 puzzles - work together to solve the clues and break into an online vault for an unforgettable games night!

I got one but haven’t opened it yet, is worth waiting until we’ve lots of time?

Audhumla · 31/12/2025 19:12

We tried one last night and found it a bit overwhelming. There was so much to read and if you are playing with other people it takes ages to read things out for each other or take turns to read everything.

I think we prefer the escape room style games as it's easier to get started and for everyone to access all the info quickly.

I do think I would enjoy the murder mystery by myself but it didn't seem to be as well suited to collaboration and a social evening as the escape room games.

We have done a few of this brand and got another for new years tonight. Its a lot of reading, which is fine for us. We played one in a group and it got a bit tricky but the next one we did just the 2 of us. Got some big a1 paper leftover from a party and made murder board style notes, it was really fun.

Isabella40 · 31/12/2025 21:45

Just finished it the envelope said takes 2-3 hours took us just over 90 minutes with 3 of us. Lots to read but the app was helpful in giving us clues what to look for. We got the correct answer too. Definitely will look into the other options shares thank you.

So is this the same thing people do as a party? Friends do it and go to host's house in costume

no it’s not a dress up one. Just an envelope with lots of evidence and a story. Have done a dress up one with a group of friends which was brilliant.

We enjoyed it but left son in charge of the digital and missed some clues. You need to remember that every piece of evidence serves a purpose too!
