Does anyone else feel a bit wistful taking the tree down?

I was going to say sad but I’m not sad about Christmas being over.

I just always think about what has happened since it last went up and what might happen before it goes up again.

It’s been quite a hard year for me with a lot of loss and change.

Next year I hope to be pregnant and putting it up in our forever home.

Yes. I won't take it down until the 2nd, but it always makes me a little sad to put it away. I always buy some fresh flowers for when it's down to brighten the place up.

That’s a nice idea - I’ve put the house plant back which is nice and I always enjoy how tidy everything suddenly feels. I like to put it down New Year’s Eve as there is something about waking up New Year’s Day and not staring at the face of last Christmas that feels mentally healthy for me

It’s the first time we have had a real tree, and I have really loved having one. It reminds me of Christmas when I was young. My grandparents always had a real tree. Knowing the tree will be put in the garden waste is making me feel really sad. Not sure I will get another real one because of how I feel now.

The tree is one of my favourite parts of Christmas. It’s always a shame when it goes.

We take ours down after New Year so it will be Saturday this year, 2nd January is a holiday in Scotland.

I will miss my tree when it comes down.

My perky, perfectly shaped real tree, twinkling away and bedecked with so many baubles that have a story.

I view ‘sitting by the tree’ as an activity, over this period.

That’s why I stopped having them. I don’t like dying trees. But I found I could get large branches, put them in a decorated tub and it looked just as good

Not particularly but that's possibly because I never take it down early. Ours will be up for another week and I think that probably makes a difference. I love Christmas trees but it feels ready to go down post Epiphany.

Happyher · 31/12/2025 14:58

No - I can’t wait to take it down. It and the other decs make the room look small and it just collects dust. I love it when it’s gone

MotherTuckinGenius · 31/12/2025 14:59

I know what you mean. I love all the decorations and will reluctantly be popping them back in the loft on Sunday. However I do find that as I get older Christmas comes around ever faster 😳

We have a real one that stays in the garden all year and we bring it in for Xmas. We keep it in a big pit so it doesn't get too big. I love bringing it in and seeing how much it's grown and changed shape. I felt the same as you and suddenly didn't like the waste . It was o my a foot tall when I bought it and now it's 5ft four years on.

I took my decs down today,I like it all clear for the NY and the tree can only stand to be inside for a week.
