Anyone else hoping to make changes to their life in 2026?

Can we share our plans and ideas?

I don’t feel like I have any joy in life anymore, and I think a lot of that is because I’m stuck in a rut, snd don’t feel very good about myself, so changes I’d like to make are:

style my hair and wear makeup every day

not let my washing basket overflow

try and learn a new skill (guitar maybe)

get at least 10k steps in a day, outdoors

save around £5000

visit my mum more often

I feel like these are all doable and sustainable, so even if I do get a bit lax, I can pick them back up.

Mines to try get outside for at least an hour every day, whether that’s the garden or going for a walk

I also need to get my diet under control, not just my weight but I’ve got health conditions too,

im an awful procrastinator and Ive got into so much trouble putting off things so that needs sorting.

Fibrous · 30/12/2025 22:07

Mine is to get off mumsnet (and my phone in general) and read more books.

I’ve a few changes & plans for next year:
Swim at least twice a week, maybe three times.

Take my kids swimming too.
I’m planning on visiting somewhere once a month with my kids, National Trust places, castles, cities etc.
Once a month family time as a minimum-woodland or beach walk.
More baking & crafting with my kids.
I’ve a few bigger hikes planned with ddog as I love walking my dog.
Finish my last degree module.
Read more audio books when walking to work.

I’m going to have a healthier attitude to food and become more accomplished! I can crochet/knit/sew badly and would like to be consistent and effective with them.
I would also like to face next winter a bit fitter and stronger. I have a chronic illness and plan to do various functional exercises like knee lifts. I got squatting and crouching mastered a couple of years ago, but hadn’t realised how important lifting the leg is.

Wouldn’t it be good if we came back to this thread on the 31st of December 2026 and saw if we managed it all?

mine are:
start a regular meditation practice
practice my instrument at least 5 days a week
learn one new recipe every month
get off mumsnet and read more
keep going with my exercise

Fernsrus · 30/12/2025 22:46

I want to exercise a bit more.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/12/2025 23:00

Read more (I’ve already chosen my first 4 books)
make some friends by joining some stuff- a choir and a walking group
sort out my garden by spending some time every week out there rather than just ignoring it
less phone time
get more sleep

and a big one: after spending over 20 years just trying to make myself smaller, I am going to devote the sane energy and attention to making myself healthier. Cut upfs, limit sugar and alcohol, generally just care more for myself. 2025 has been a horrible year and one thing I have learned is that I have to be kinder to myself. I want to enjoy my life and feel like I have good things to look forward to.

bushproblems · 30/12/2025 23:44

I will add reading to my list too, I spend far too much time on my phone.

Mine is to basically try and look after myself a bit better, because I don't.
One major one is I would like to try is to maybe volunteer. I have not worked for a very long time due to MH issues, but I feel I have a lot to offer because of my lived experience. One of the staff who supports me at the MH charity I attend has seen some potential in me and really wants me to apply to volunteer.

Clingfilm · 30/12/2025 23:53

I love a new year list and do one every year!
2026 will be mainly health goals. Need to really cut down on the home drinking and have a better diet...it's finally caught up with me. Looking forward to properly trying to lose the perimeno 3/4 of a stone that's crept on, and get my muscles back.

Read at least one bloody book instead of screen time.

Get my travel mojo back.

bushproblems · 30/12/2025 23:55

I also want to look after my skin a bit more. And actually get a routine going

OhFeyreDarling · 30/12/2025 23:56

Well I'm thinking about selling my flat, leaving my job and running away to another country. Well maybe not run away but travel for a bit.

I'm been so damned unhappy this year and living alone is so bloody hard I'm very tempted to just live in my campervan.

I know this isn't quite what you meant OP, but I do I also want to spend less time on my phone though
