Room 101 for Christmas things

LlynTegid · 30/12/2025 10:41

A thread largely light hearted of Christmas things, traditions or phrases to send into room 101.

I'll begin with:

The phrase Twixmas
Christmas Eve boxes
Fake sales

OP posts:

Social media posts of piles of presents and families in matching pjs. I always wonder if the Dad has been forced into wearing them.

The elf on the shelf can fuck right off

MCF86 · 30/12/2025 10:47

People asking children "what are you hoping Santa brings" after the school holidays have started and parents have no chance to fix it when they announce something they've never mentioned before.

overpriced "xmas markets" which are just a bunch of general crap and some overpriced bratwursts.
mulled wine
secret santa

Secret Santa. Proper going straight to the landfill nonsense.

Women dragging men around the shops for Christmas gifts / Sales. So many bored fellas with hangdog expressions in M&S. I know women have to do “everything” at Christmas. But, honestly… Having him in tow seems so much worse, to me!

Presents for children outside of parents, grandparents and aunts/uncles.
Presents for adults outside of partners, parents and siblings.

Totally agree, I would never invite DH to come shopping and he would never agree to come if I did. Someone I know once said she takes her husband shopping so he can pay. This is even more disturbing to me. Our money is joint and I spend it with my own card!

Temu gifts.

If you like Temu fine. Crack on. If you want to buy Temu stuff for people you know are happy with Temu stuff fine. Crack on.

But please stop buying gifts from Temu for people whose stance on Temu you don't know. Do you not know how contentious it is? And how skinny my new bastard bin is.

I'm not being dramatic.

azuleja · 30/12/2025 10:58

Pressure to buy stuff. Why do we all buy into it?

therewasafishinthepercolator · 30/12/2025 11:06

Not knowing what day it is.

I took one for the team and went food shopping with DH. We split up and he blocks the aisles faffs and ponders for ages over what meat/cheese to buy and i go and fetch everything else. He often overlooks things he doesnt like/isnt interested in and would come home and say they didnt have x, y or z or only buys things for the main meal , forgetting we will also eat breakfast, or need to eat the next day!
He likes food shopping and would spend half a day in the supermarket given free reign and still not get everything on the list He hates all other shopping. We do not shop together at other times unless for furniture/large purchases

Landfill crap for any reason. I adore Christmas but what’s wrong with nice meals, seeing friends, music, carols, looking at the lights, baking if you enjoy it, whatever you like except for crap that is going into landfill at some point in the next couple of years.

TwoLeggedGrooveMachine · 30/12/2025 11:45

Christmas PJs
Christmas bedding
elf the shelf
hot chocolate ‘stations’
Christmas Eve boxes
decorations up before December

anything else inspired by or for social media
