What do you do with unopened toiletries you don’t want?

Hi all
I have ended up with about a years worth of various toiletries but they are not brands that I normally use. I feel bad about wasting them so I am wondering what other people do in situations like this

Do you just use them anyway, give them away or have another solution? I would love to hear your tips

Raffles or charity shops

Calypsocuckoo · 29/12/2025 20:20

I donate to charity shops or to those collecting for school tombolas etc.

MartinCrieffsHat · 29/12/2025 20:20

Offer them to a charity shop. If they can't sell them, the volunteers might like them.
Offer them on Freecycle.
Make a little hamper of them to give to a friend.

Tigerbalmshark · 29/12/2025 20:21

School fairs mostly. Food banks/refuges/charity shops otherwise.

Codyrhodesisaheel · 29/12/2025 20:21

FoxRedPuppy · 29/12/2025 20:21

LivingDeadGirlUK · 29/12/2025 20:21

Schools will take them for raffles and fairs.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 29/12/2025 20:22

Food bank or the local RSPCA rescue centre for their fairs.

Wetcoatsandmudagain · 29/12/2025 20:22

Local food bank were happy to take mine

DisforDarkChocolate · 29/12/2025 20:23

Boots - The Hygiene Bank drop off points. You could add some practical stuff too like toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Astra53 · 29/12/2025 20:25

You could offer them to your local hygiene bank.

ShetlandishMum · 29/12/2025 20:25

Donate.

MammaWeasel · 29/12/2025 20:26

Local food bank, though i do use up dodgy bubble bath and shower gels decant3d into a squirty bottle as hand wash in the bathroom, it's all soap after all!

Xmasbaby11 · 29/12/2025 20:26

Charity shop. They seem to sell well and I’ve bought a few things there myself.

Bougainsillier · 29/12/2025 20:26

Women’s refuge

Unicornsandprincesses · 29/12/2025 20:28

a supermarket near me collects for a local hygiene bank. I tend to use everything I’m gifted to be honest. But my husband had some shampoo in a gift set and he’s bald… so we really didn’t need that 😊

BigGra · 29/12/2025 20:28

Donate to a Women’s refuge

Gliblet · 29/12/2025 20:29

Swap them with friends, donate to food banks or a local charity that gives out sleeping bags and toiletries to the homeless, or give them to a group at work who do regular raffles and things to raise funds for keeping a little community garden going outside the office.

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 29/12/2025 20:30

Years ago I worked for a place where someone organised an event where we took in a load of toiletries and perfumes that we hadn't used, so we could all swap with each other. Everyone paid £1 I think. Maybe it was for Comic Relief or something like that.

onwardandupwards · 29/12/2025 20:32

I find they go really quickly on olio

Notmyregularusrname · 29/12/2025 20:32

I run one of the “community pantry” type initiatives that MN hates so much (set up your tackle food waste and similar).

We encourage people to leave them with us and they are always well received.

Umy15r03lcha1 · 29/12/2025 20:33

Food banks will take toiletries.

Clutterbug2026 · 29/12/2025 20:33

Offer to friends and/or put in the food bank tub.

QuietLifeNoDrama · 29/12/2025 20:34

Our local food bank also runs a hygiene bank so collects these items. Maybe worth checking yours out too

2026Panther · 29/12/2025 20:35

I generally feed them into dc's schools and sports clubs for raffle prizes. One or two quite pricey ones I've sold on Vinted.
