What do you do with unopened toiletries you don’t want?

Hi all
I have ended up with about a years worth of various toiletries but they are not brands that I normally use. I feel bad about wasting them so I am wondering what other people do in situations like this

Do you just use them anyway, give them away or have another solution? I would love to hear your tips

I put them in the community pantry collection point.

Moveoverdarlin · 29/12/2025 20:35

Unless it was make-up I would just use it. Shower gel, hair stuff, bubble bath, moisturiser - unless it was especially cheap and nasty I’d use it. Even perfume I’d use as an air freshener.

Foodbanks always need toiletries. There are beauty banks too, for more specialist things.

annlee3817 · 29/12/2025 20:41

Definitely to a women's refuge

MartinCrieffsHat · 29/12/2025 20:42

Do they want things like trial size hair styling lotion and face packs? I donate things like bar soap and toothpaste.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/12/2025 20:42

The food bank.

GameOfJones · 29/12/2025 20:44

I do a mixture of things. I will try and use it in some way if I can. I'm currently using a face moisturiser I was given that's too rich for my skin as a foot cream. Or random shower gels I will decant into hand soap containers like a PP.

Otherwise they tend to go as donations for the school raffle.

Like others, hygiene banks or charity shops.
I gave some Clinique toiletries to the local charity shop and they were very pleased!

blankcanvas3 · 29/12/2025 20:45

Hygiene banks

reversegear · 29/12/2025 20:46

Depending on the brand Vinted or charity

NeedForSpeedyGonzales · 29/12/2025 20:46

Foodbank collection at the supermarket. You can put things in from any shop, not just the one it's standing in.

OctopusFriend · 29/12/2025 20:47

Our local Boots has a big donation box, for any brands.

TheProvincialLady · 29/12/2025 20:47

I take them to church as we have a table for people to donate/help themselves.

ShieldMaiden8 · 29/12/2025 20:48

leave them in the bathroom for guests to use

DemonsandMosquitoes · 29/12/2025 20:49

Give them to work colleagues

ElevensesKing · 29/12/2025 20:50

Woman's refuge, homeless shelter or the foodbank collection point at supermarkets.

smallsilvercloud · 29/12/2025 20:51

I’d just use them myself would save me buying more

POTC · 29/12/2025 20:51

We take them at charity shops (manager), opened ones I put in a free box outside and they go quickly, or we can recycle them with our rag company. Unopened sets go out for sale as they are, oddments I gather together into mystery bags!

notacooldad · 29/12/2025 20:52

I take mine to a contact I have for the Women and children refuge in our town.

NuffSaidSam · 29/12/2025 20:54

I'd use most of them, I'm not fussy about brands generally.

If I didn't like it for some reason I would pass on to my Mum or a friend.

If they didn't want it I'd donate to a charity shop, food bank or the school fair (although I'd hope it wouldn't still be in my cupboard come June when the school fair is!).

caringcarer · 29/12/2025 22:16

I drop them off at a food donation point in a supermarket.

FridayFriesDay · 29/12/2025 22:20

Hygiene banks and the dog rescue

WinterWooliesBaa · 29/12/2025 22:42

Local Charity Shop for them to sell or give away to the people they try to help directly. Pantry food, any towels. Bedding etc also.

MorrisZapp · 29/12/2025 22:42

How do you donate to a womens refuge? Surely they're anonymous to keep the women safe.

BarbaraKirksKaftan · 29/12/2025 22:46

Depending on the brand I would try to sell on Vinted. Failing that charity shop or food bank.
