After divorce what title do you use?

Some companies are up to date and aren't forcing me to have a title but some aren't and are. I'm not married so no to Mrs, I'm too old to be Miss, not convinced on Ms but seems to be the only option.

What do you use?

When I got divorced I just went back to Miss. didn’t occur to me that I was too old for it 🤭

SnowFrogJelly · 29/12/2025 22:25

Im 64 and either use Miss or Ms depending on my mood, never Mrs. I've been divorced a few times and always kept my own name.

I would dearly love to use the title Mistress…

Actually..

TheHillIsMine · 29/12/2025 22:45

I would have been Miss if I'd never married and not thought of age, but now I'm in my 50s I suppose going back to Miss feels like it's a bit childish. Having read the posts and thought about it I know that's daft and I'll stick with Ms.

I don’t associate Miss with being young, never have. I’d choose Miss or Ms if divorced.

AmyDuPlantier · 29/12/2025 22:57

Ms for me. I stopped using Mrs when I started feeling unhappily married about two years ago, and I’ll be using it when the divorce goes through next year.

That my thought. I hate how men have Mr and it tells no one if they are single, married, divorced and widowed but women have had to be branded.

That's the whole point of Ms, which is why I started using it at 18 and why my name gives no indication as to my marital status.

JumpingPumpkin · 29/12/2025 23:10

I'm beginning to think we should ditch saying Ms as Muz and just say missus for all adult women.

VoltaireMittyDream · 29/12/2025 23:12

What’s with the Ms hate? I’ve been Ms since I was a teenager (a loooong time ago). Was never a Mrs even after marriage.

Rosybud88 · 29/12/2025 23:12

I went back to Miss because I felt Ms highlighted that I was divorced and I didn’t think it was anyone’s business. Oh the joys of being a woman!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 29/12/2025 23:14

I'm like that woman in Frasier who insists on Ms

Have done since I was a 16yo rad feminist 😄

Damnloginpopup · 29/12/2025 23:15

Dr.

I'm not one, but it makes me giggle.

Mapleunicorn · 29/12/2025 23:34

I use Miss, Ms and Mrs interchangeably. I can’t really settle on what I want to use so I go with whatever. A lot of stuff I already have set up in the name Mrs so I haven’t changed them. But new stuff sometimes I say Ms and sometimes I say Miss. I don’t think it’s that deep really. I kind of resent that I need to be defined by a title when a man doesn’t so I mix it up. I’ve kept his surname purely because I want the same name as DD. He is engaged so I might change my mind when there is another Mrs MapleUnicorn on the scene and stick with Ms but who knows!

Cordeliasdemonbabies · 29/12/2025 23:59

I've never married and been Ms Mysurname ever since I was 21 or so and working. Was a pain with my first employer (in the 20teens!) as their HR system assumed I must be divorced with a Ms title. I will remain Ms Mysurname even if I marry as I have no intention of changing my name or title. I won't be fussy about social naming conventions but won't change anything official.

Hollyhobbi · 30/12/2025 00:15

Ms. but I've always been Ms. and never used my married name!

hollyandribbon · 30/12/2025 00:17

I use Ms and I’m married

GrimDamnFanjo · 30/12/2025 00:21

Ms is an equivalent to Mr? Use whatever you like really. I’m Ms but I neve4 adopted my husbands surname either…

Ponderingwindow · 30/12/2025 00:25

I was Ms when I was 10, when I was married, and when I divorced.

the only reason my title would change is if I earn a particular degree or by some fluke I am granted a royal honour or peerage.

mathanxiety · 30/12/2025 03:20

I used the same title i had always used - Ms.

However, very few companies or organisations use a title any more where I live (US).

Yes, there's a misconception that Ms is for divorced women.

I've always been Ms and I don't know any of my old schoolmates (apart from those who are doctors and dentists) who have ever used any title other than Ms.

Elektra1 · 30/12/2025 03:46

I kept the surname but use Ms as the title. Don’t have any issue with that as it reflects my unmarried status

Globules · 30/12/2025 07:04

ShawnaMacallister · 29/12/2025 21:36

We do, it's Ms

We don't, else this thread wouldn't exist.

JumpingPumpkin · 29/12/2025 23:10

I'm beginning to think we should ditch saying Ms as Muz and just say missus for all adult women.

It's not pronounced Muz though.
