After divorce what title do you use?

Some companies are up to date and aren't forcing me to have a title but some aren't and are. I'm not married so no to Mrs, I'm too old to be Miss, not convinced on Ms but seems to be the only option.

What do you use?

Mrs. Ms sounds awful.

Size40Shoes · 29/12/2025 19:52

Ms but I've always been Ms, I hate Mrs and I'm too old for Miss

ExquisiteDressing · 29/12/2025 19:53

What don't you like about Ms? More and more women are using it regardless of marital status now.

See, this is why it is so ridiculous changing name and title.

Just use what you want. Chop and change if onone feel like you. Go for Mr and try to confound people if that seems fun.

ExperiencedTeacher · 29/12/2025 19:56

I still use Mrs and my ex husband’s name but I’d have no issue with Ms either

Mosaic80 · 29/12/2025 19:56

I use Ms where I can. If I’m mrs surname it sounds like my mum as I’ve reverted to maiden name. I figure Ms needs to come into regular usage. Luckily there’s not much need to actually say it, it’s more for forms. Tbh even if I wasn’t divorced it seems weird for middle aged women to be miss. I wish we had a system more like master/mr for women but patriarchy… 😞.

TheHillIsMine · 29/12/2025 19:58

I don't want to be Mrs as it just reminds me I married a twat.

I feel weird about Ms like I'm making a point or something.

I am also changing my surname but that's taking longer to come through than I expected or I'd like. I just thought maybe Mrs New Surname would be okay but actually, I don't want to be Mrs either.

Ms - before, during and after marriage. We don't ask men to differentiate between Master and Mister anymore and only use Mr, so we should only use Ms for women. 🤷‍♀️ I'm 55 and have only ever used Ms as a single, married and divorced woman.

FancyCatSlave · 29/12/2025 19:58

I’m moving to Ms but keeping his surname. I freely admit I only changed surname to
his because I disliked my maiden name and love his. He seems quite surprised I’m keeping it but logistically it’s easier and that’s what I am
telling him but it’s actually pure vanity.

Buscake · 29/12/2025 19:59

Very happy to be Ms

Run30 · 29/12/2025 19:59

If you’re going to continue to use your ex-husband’s name then keep Mrs.
If you’re going to use your maiden name then use Miss.

If you’re going to continue to use your ex-husband’s name then keep Mrs.
If you’re going to use your maiden name then use Miss.

Why?

Was happy to get rid of my maiden name and would never go back to it. And not because his was better as it wasn't.

How old is too old for Miss? I'm 44 and Miss.

No. I don’t want to.

SophieStrawHat · 29/12/2025 20:08

Ms or Miss.
i like being a Miss because I’m so pleased not to be married anymore.

TheUniversalsHere · 29/12/2025 20:10

I've reverted to Miss Maiden name. Shaved years off. Whoop!

Same, I’ve always used Ms since I was an adult, while I was married and will continue to after I’m not.

PinkNeonSign · 29/12/2025 20:13

I’m thinking about taking my mother’s maiden name as both my dad and my ex husband are twats. Not sure about whether to be Miss or Ms

No thanks :) I’m going to use my mum’s maiden name and still Ms, as I always have done.

Snap!! I have no shade against my dad but I just want a new start so I’m doing the same.

Elephantscantjump · 29/12/2025 20:15

I went back to Miss as got divorced at 30 and felt too young for Ms. All my work documentation did default to Ms though so the nhs clearly feels that's the proper title if you're divorced 😆

BringBackCatsEyes · 29/12/2025 20:16

Ms maiden name.
I would much rather have no title. People aren’t meant to know your married status if you use Ms and I like that.
I think people assume Miss = unmarried and Mrs = married. My marital status is not relevant to anything I do apart from dating.

Egglio · 29/12/2025 20:16

I use Ms or Lord depending on the options available on the drop-down because no one truly gives a fuck about title anymore, although Dr is earned so I don't steal that one.

I use Miss, I feel too young to be Mrs despite marrying young. Working with kids I much prefer ‘Miiiiisssss’ over ‘Mrs Surname’, when they start calling me ‘Mrs Surname’ I will know I’m officially old.

Edit: Ms just doesn’t work in school, doesn’t feel right.

PinkNeonSign · 29/12/2025 20:20

I quite fancy doing a PhD (always have to be fair) that way I don’t have to be any of them.
