Just the title really.

What did you leave out for Santa as a child?

I'm watching a programme on YouTube about Christmas in the 1970s and it's taken me delightfully down memory lane.

Santa usually got a beer in my house 😆 and a handful of whatever huge tin of sweets were out.

Mum was Santa in our house and loved it we always wrote to Santa and Santa wrote back. Only wish I had kept them.

Mince pie and a glass of sherry !

in the morning there was one bite taken from the mince pie and the sherry would be empty 😀

Mince pie and sherry in our house! Midlands, late 80s/early 90s.

Mince pie and a sherry.

He still gets a mince pie but a dram in our house now.

Sherry, mince pie and carrot for Rudolph. Sherry had to be in the best sherry glass and was empty the next day.

DancingPony · 28/12/2025 22:53

Whisky and a mince pie here.

My children wanted to do milk and cookies this year, so that's what we did - for shame! <clutches pearls and faints>

Kickinthenostalgia · 28/12/2025 22:54

Coke, or a beer 😂 obviously back then my mum said it was what we had in the house… obviously it was whatever my dad fancied that night.
mince pie ( think my mum ate that) and a carrot for the reindeer which I’m assuming they just popped Back in the fridge 🙃

gogomomo2 · 28/12/2025 23:00

Mince pie and whatever spirit type drink we had, usually ginger wine, coincidentally my dad loves ginger wine 🤔

AsanteSana · 28/12/2025 23:05

A tray of wet plaster of Paris, to capture his footprint - just to see if he was real

Andthatrightsoon · 28/12/2025 23:07

A Mars bar and a glass of sherry. Oddly, my Dad's favourites ...

KingscoteStaff · 28/12/2025 23:08

Mince pie, glass of whisky, carrot for Rudolf.

In the morning there were just crumbs on the plate, dregs in the glass and a suspiciously non-graminivorous bite mark in the carrot...

boogietrapps · 28/12/2025 23:08

Coke and Pringles😂.

We do milk and cookies here now as Santa doesn’t like mince pies or sherry.

Milk and 2 chocolate chip cookies. And chopped carrots and apples for the reindeer.

Redheadedstepchild · 29/12/2025 06:23

Sherry and a mince pie, with a carrot for Rudolf. My dad went above and beyond by leaving a bite mark in the carrot and a crumpled paper napkin behind as evidence.

My grandad. (His dad) nearly scared us all half to death one year when he was furtling around in the fireplace saying that an unusally shaped pile of soot was an elf that had been living in the chimney to listen to us but had died and was buried in the ashes.

It builds character. We're all fine now.

I was born 1987 and I don't recall anything not sure on my brother or sister I don't think we did

RampantIvy · 29/12/2025 07:23

Nothing. Either it wasn't a thing in the 1960s or my parents just didn't buy into it.
