I've lost 4 stones and none of my summer clothes fit so I'm starting from scratch.
I need a capsule wardrobe for a cruise in Greece and Turkey at the end of March.
I'm not into dressey clothing, I'm a flat shoes no makeup type!
Please help me work out what I need for a 10 night cruise....I'm still loosing weight so trying to only buy what I will need.

Vinted is brilliant for nice dresses. You will need a formal dress for the formal night and some nice separates generally for touring around and evening dinner. I went on an 11 week cruise with a formal night every week. Bought on vinted and sold when I got back.

As long as you can fit in a life ring I wouldn't worry op

@CalmShaker
Why bother posting if you have nothing useful to add!

It was quite funny OP, Im going on a cruise next year and I laughed

My advice, having lost a lot of weight, is do not buy anything now, wait until about 4 weeks before you go.

Well I was trying to emphasis the point that you shouldn't worry too much about your clothes fitting (enjoying your holiday is the main thing, new surroundings etc.).
The size you are is only relavent for fitting in a life ring, as long as you can do not worry

I was going to say that you still have time to slim back into your clothes by March but you are in a much happier situation than that 😀
Maybe go to John Lewis or similar and get a personal shopper to help put together a capsule wardrobe. Enjoy!

What cruise line? Some make you dress up in evening. We are currently on Explora and although people do dress up in the evenings, I haven’t bothered!

YuleLogsAndEggNog · 28/12/2025 22:31

@CalmShaker
I don't have any clothes other than winter clothes I'm wearing now....I'm not going naked!

@cupfinalchaos Celebrity.....not particularly formal.

The time of year you’re going is not particularly hot. I’d save up a few £££s and go on a shopping spree at the end of February when the summer stuff hits the shops. You don’t need anything particularly fancy for a Celebrity cruise BTW.

I tend to take the number of evening meals you'll be getting, divide by 2 and that's how many dresses you'll need, plus one extra if you have a posh formal night2. Avoid anything white that will show mucky bits and risk appearing see through with bright lightning! Don't worry about wearing the same outfit twice, no one will notice.

Similar with daytime and add a couple of neutral coloured cardigans that will match with all your daytime outfits. If it's hot, I tend to wear shorts and t-shirt or if its cooler, cropped trousers.

I pack light with clothes, couple of pairs of smart neutral coloured flats to go with all dresses.

Charity shops are your friend! I'm a jeans and t shirt kind of girl, and I went on our first cruise 2 years ago. I had one pair of nice black trousers, a few dressy tops and a few evening type dresses.
I hit the charity shops here, in my daughters towns and a couple of other local towns. I got some amazing tops that could mix and match with my black trousers and a pair of navy trousers I got in a charity shop. I found some Armani trousers for £6 in Newbury! I got a couple of evening dresses, a gorgeous purple (like Cadbury chocolate purple) for £7.50, I had a fab time.
Daytime on board it was jeans and jumpers around the ship, same as when we went on any tours. Evening was trousers and posh tops, special evening was one of my evening dresses.
Well done on your weight loss but.....
Don't buy anything too tight, the temptation of the buffet is strong! I put on half a stone the first time we went on a cruise.
Check if you've got a laundrette on board, take some washing sheets/ pods and you can do your washing before you come home!
