Kitchen storage question – empty shelves

Bottlesofrumonthewall · 28/12/2025 18:34

I’ve reorganised the kitchen cupboards and now have an empty shelf which is making me more uncomfortable than it should.

Everything else has a place lentils and grains herbs and spices baking bits nuts and peanut butter tins fresh fruit and veg separate cupboards for cereal tea and coffee pots and pans and cookery books.

I don’t want to move things around I want to fill the shelf but can’t think what with.

What do people keep on a spare cupboard shelf?

Just leave it Confused
You can’t be seriously contemplating buying stuff you don’t need to fill a shelf, rather than leave it empty?
How absolutely weird is that?

Tupperware

Serving bowls

Baking kit

Fancy glasses we never use <looks at DH>

Random DIY stuff and kids stuff that always gravitates to the kitchen- tape, batteries, candles, hairbrush, chargers etc

I can’t even contemplate an empty shelf. I have teapots, espresso cups, antique meat platters, glass jars with rice or lentils or pasta, or champagne flutes or mugs or a coffee machine or dog toys or candles or salt and pepper grinders or snack bowls or photos in frames or a bowl with hyacinth bulbs or oils I was given for Christmas or pens or earring backs or gift tags or stamps or empty vases or paperweights my uncle owned or mint jelly my sister made.

Things like that.

if you have a spare shelf print your favourite photos and put them in frames and enjoy them.
don’t buy new clutter!

I can’t use it for sweets or biscuits because of diabetes

Keep it as the seasonal shelf? Let's you buy ahead for birthday meals or Christmas or summer barbecues and have somewhere to stash the stuff without rearranging everyday stocks.

Or as your bargains stash, for when there's a deal on things you use often so you can stock up cheap.
