Good Afternoon Mumsnet - What’s Happening In Your House?

I’ve been looking for lucysmam but there doesn’t seem to be a thread today so hopefully all the usual suspects will post on here! Hope you’re having a great festive season . Trying to summon up the enthusiasm to go for a walk as it’s sunny here in Cornwall. Actually had a lie in until 10.30. DH went down around 7 to make a cuppa then we both went back to sleep. I went to the PO to find out how much a parcel would cost to send first class (potentially sold a Seasalt short mac on Marketplace & the person wants it for NYE). Currently watching Strictly Christmas Special & thinking about lunch. The fridge is full! Quite fancy a turkey & ham sandwich. I’m doing a “ normal” tea of pasta, pesto & peas. Despite all the decluttering, the house still resembles a warehouse. I’ve ordered some storage boxes online. Also dipped into the sales & got a few bits & also found a beautiful brooch on Marketplace to buy with the rest of my birthday money from DF. Did the dishwasher & put a load of washing on. DD17 sounds like she’s moving furniture in her room. She’s been out for a walk. We had a lovely Christmas Day with her. Things have improved so much in the last year 🙂

So glad things are better with your DD and that you had a lovely Christmas! I looked for a Saturday thread too then realised it’s that ‘who knows what day it is’ point in the year!
Waved mum off to see my brother earlier. I need to put the regular food shop away for the week that has arrived and hang up washing and generally tidy around but I’m on about day 5 of the Cold From Hell and dragging myself off my bed to do anything feels horrendous! It’s the first day I’ve actually been able to relax too after hosting. I will move in a minute, I swear…
DD is off to meet her dad for late lunch in a minute. I’m planning on films and tea and that’s about it for the rest of the day! Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 27/12/2025 14:38

Did a quick shop in a deserted Aldi. Went for a walk, it was lovely and sunny earlier. Roast pork and Prosecco for lunch. DH and DS1 have just watched the football and I’ve flicked over to watch the darts. DS2 is revising, he has uni exams in two weeks, then has work.
Another relaxed kind of day.

Zippedydodah · 27/12/2025 14:39

‘Afternoon all! I’m sitting in front of the wood burner, scrolling on MN and feeling slightly sick after eating scampi and chips from the chippy. The washing has finished, I’ve a pile of ironing to tackle tomorrow morning and it’s quiet here.
The dogs will need another walk shortly, nothing planned for the rest of today or the next week. I have a very humdrum life but it doesn’t bother me!
DGSs will WhatsApp video later, to show me how they’ve got on with building the Lego they had for Christmas.
ZDog1 has jumped up on my lap so she can see out of the window, ZDog2 is chewing an indestructible toy thingy, anything less robust she destroys in minutes.
I have done an online grocery shop for a few bits, mainly fruit and vegetables, there’s not much in the fridge because I deliberately cut down on how much I bought this year.
Have a lovely evening x

@DemonsandMosquitoes We were shocked at how empty Lidl was on Christmas Eve afternoon, far fewer people than a normal week day.

Rainbow1235 · 27/12/2025 14:49

Afternoon to u all . I’ve had a good clear up and feel beta for it . I’m goin to my sister in laws at 4 for our annual drinks and nibbles could quite easily stay in tho . I’ve just booked Toby carvery for tomorrow as my son is 33 autistic and saying he’s bored so will have dinner and pop into Asda for few bits as it’s his favourite shop ever . Have a great day all

Still attempting to send off the dregs of the cold that started last Tuesday! It's really trying to cling on!

Had a nice couple of days with my mum staying, and waved her off about 10:30am once the frost had melted.
Sorted out a load of washing and then headed down the road to the local parade of shops to visit the charity shops, with the aim of getting next years Christmas cards. Oxfam and Mind came up trumps with some nice ones. I also managed to get two nice tops from the Air Ambulance shop. A purple Trespass jumper, and a red patterned shirt, originally M&S. Both looked as good as new and just need a freshen-up wash.
Then popped into Waitrose for a bit of fruit, milk, and the makings for a slow cooker spaghetti bolognaise in the next couple of days.

Aim for the rest of this weekend at least is just to relax! Naps and my book I think.
I'm looking forward to a leisurely bath later tonight. :)

Afternoon all! Lazy day here. Dc are at their dads. Me and dp have been having a Netflix catchup. I have walked the dog and we are off to the cinema later. Enjoy all!

Marmite27 · 27/12/2025 15:16

We did Parkrun, two members of the family did their 50th. Home for showers and a fry up, then we’ve spent a couple of hours decluttering and finding homes for new stuff. I’ve got a charity shop bag for tomorrow.

Chilling in front of the fire know, tea is left overs, then church later.

Crunchymum · 27/12/2025 15:16

Currently on the sofa with a book and a cup of tea.

DP has taken the kids to the woods with their bikes.

I have just roasted some pork, potatoes and veg ready for later and I just need to sort the stuffing and pigs in blankets. It will Christmas dinner #3 for us today.

I have been poorly since 14th December and only started to be able to eat again / have any type of appetite on Xmas Eve. We spent Christmas day with my family and Boxing day with DP's family but I've hit a wall today.

We'll watch a film later and early night all round.

Nincompoo · 27/12/2025 15:19

I drank far too much red wine last night so have had a thick head all day so had a lovely long bath and am now just laying on the sofa watching YouTube. My stomach is rumbling though so I need to think about having something to eat, I don’t think I can cope with any more turkey or ham! I quite fancy beans on toast.

gingercat02 · 27/12/2025 15:56

Haven't heard from @lucysmam since Christmas Eve, hope she's having fun.

Not a lot. We were all up late watching Stranger Things last night, so a slow start all round.
I was up first, coffee and a bit of scrolling. DH got up we had coffee and toast. He washed last night's dishes, I did the bins and recycling.
DS got up, we had lunch, he and DH watched to lunchtime football. I packaged up a couple of Christmas returns.
They are upstairs gaming. I'm watching telly (Amandaland and Beyond Paradise Christmas specials) I'm debating lighting the fire and opening a bottle of fizz.
We are all in tonight so maybe a film. DS has requested non Christmas food, so probably sausage pasta.

eekwhatnow · 27/12/2025 17:16

This morning I got out for a run, DH walked the dog, and DS took his bike out with a mate. DD and I got restless this afternoon and took the tree down so we could restore normality to the kitchen but left all the living room decorations and tempted to leave them until March! Now watching Stranger Things and eating an early supper of soup and bread before we all head out to the village Panto either to perform or volunteer in it! Rather tired today and looking forward to getting to bed afterwards…

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 27/12/2025 17:26

Good afternoon all. I was out this morning for second breakfast with a friend. I've done two washes and dried them in the tumble dryer. I've also watched Some Like it Hot and had a Venezuelan rum that my son brought back. In a while I will have chipolatas and mash which is all I can be bothered to cook.

soccermum10 · 27/12/2025 17:32

Hi everyone,
Today I've put away all the decorations apart from the trees. These won't come down till 2nd of January. Had a chilled afternoon, and got some more uni work done. Tonight is film night 😁 Need a good thriller or horror lol

EsmeeMerlin · 27/12/2025 17:32

I took ds1 into town this morning for breakfast and a look around the sales. Got some decent bits with our gift cards we received. Just relaxed all afternoon. Just helped ds1 build a Minecraft Lego set with the tiger who came to tea on the TV. Pasta bake with garlic bread in oven and we will have chocolate yule log and custard because it needs to be eaten.

soccermum10 · 27/12/2025 17:33

Ooh we had a Stranger Things marathon yesterday. Up to date now 😁 Having an Indian for tea.

mondaytosunday · 27/12/2025 17:39

Up early to get on the road at 9am to get my son to the ferry as he had to work today (retail). He had a bag of leftovers to take home so that’s dinner for a couple nights sorted! My DD was taking a driving lesson when I returned then as soon as she did we went to do a bit of driving practice and dentist. Then home for mere minutes as the hospital called while at the dentist saying she could come straight in for her MRI (she has MS). So back in the car! Now home just putting dinner in the oven (part leftovers, part expired Tesco ready meal). Fire is lit, Christmas lights are twinkling! I’m about to open the wine. Some foreign film is our viewing tonight.

frozendaisy · 27/12/2025 17:53

A getting back to mid normal day here
Teens did some of their magazine round, took MIL home loaded with presents (it’s the other end of village not that far)
watching hit and miss stuff on Netflix
curry made just need rice and parathas now
think we still have an extra teen in the house - I don’t know I don’t really care
we have jobs jobs jobs tomorrow but that’s tomorrow

BlooomUnleashed · 27/12/2025 17:55

I’m sat feeling all proud of myself because at my ADHD meal prep club, I meal prepped like a pro ! (it has taken some time to work up to the point)

AND cleaned up as I went, so the kitchen isn’t a disaster zone.

ChatGPT is trying to steer me through the use of miso paste with a lot of patience, although I detect a slight edge of irritation creeping in, so I’ll leave him alone for a while to decompress and watch cats on youtube.
