The place that used to be called Quilliams, now I think called Newcastle tea room. On corner opposite Hancock museum, on the same road and side as the academic bookshop. Three to four slow minutes amble from Haymarket metro.

I'd book a table as while sometimes it's quiet and you'll always get a table after queueing a while, that can sometimes be a wait. Especially book if you have a pushchair or need access space.

Not been myself but you could try the Barbour pop up cafe in Fenwicks.

Blakes is also nice. Been around for eons. Good coffee and cake too x

Good shout on Blake's, but I find the tiny pile of cheap fatty crisps and two bits of dead lettuce beside the sandwiches really disappointing. Better to just stick with the nice sandwich and not mess it up with the lacklustre gubbins. Also hellishly busy every time I've been, but otherwise nice vibe. Terrible if you need access room and the women's loos are down breakneck stairs, but nice pub vibe.

Tyneside cinema upstairs cafe maybe, the Magic Hat was the best but it's just closed.

Cafe in Laing Art Gallery is always quiet.

Olive & Bean
though it is popular so does get busy & you can’t book.

I like their downstairs cafe. One of my favourite places to escape to as a single parent. When I get a child free opportunity, it's book, wine, film.
