Anyone else got that sad post”post Christmas” feeling?

We’ve only got a small family but we always have a nice chilled day - me, 2 kids, my Mum and her partner. Last night I felt overwhelmed with a sad feeling that it might have been the last Christmas like that.

My Mum and Stepdad are both in their mid/late 80s, and not in great health. My kids are 16 and 20. Older one is in his final year at uni, so may be moving away for work next summer. Both now have girlfriends with lovely welcoming families, so I’m starting to see how it’ll be when they start getting invited elsewhere.

Of course this is all normal life, how it’s meant to be etc, nothing wrong with it. But it occurred to me that when the kids are young you just know that this year will be the same as last year, and next year will be the same as this year, and so on, for the foreseeable future. Then suddenly you wake up and realise that the kids are adults and the grandparents are really old, and everything is changing so fast!

Feeling a bit flat, and actually now just want to crack on with the new year so I can stop being reflective!!
