Christmas constipation 😭

Possibly TMI (sorry) but I am so uncomfortable. We have been at PILs' since Christmas eve and I haven't been for a poo! Last one was Wednesday morning when j got up at home.

There has been a lot of eating and j am so bloated and achy. I have tried several times but nothing is happening. Just got up early and tried for 15 mins but nothing and I had to give up when I heard others around.

It's tricky cos there are two toilets and 7 people so I can't spend ages. Not going home til tomorrow.

Any tips? I just have to wait don't I?

Can you try a black coffee?

teaandabun · 26/12/2025 08:34

Replace some of the teas and coffees with hot water.
Go out for a walk. Exercising helps.
If you are near a pharmacy, get some Fybogel.
Eat some kiwi/raspberries/pears/oranges.
Good luck. It is miserable!

Best thing is to get advice from a medical professional. Saying that, I take Molaxole which takes a couple of days to work.

You'll go once you're in the comfort of your own home no doubt!

itsthetea · 26/12/2025 08:39

Exercise and drink lots of water
massage tummy
take meds ( movicol) there will be a chemist open somewhere you can walk to

EleanorReally · 26/12/2025 08:39

it is a very common scenario over yuletide

She's only been two days so I think any gp would say she's fine for now.

Don't worry op, tomorrow is Saturday so it'll have been "only" three days. Medically speaking that's not even technically constipation if you manage it tomorrow.

Just relax and know you'll be back home soon!

Lennonjingles · 26/12/2025 08:41

A walk, lots of water, coffee, orange juice, fruit.

Gonnabefine · 26/12/2025 08:46

Thanks everyone. I know it's not serious constipation that requires medical attention. I could just really do with going.

I have had two black coffees (so now really need a wee!)!and will try again in a minute when I go for my shower. It's so odd because I feel like I need it but can't physically do it! As soon as I sit down it just doesn't happen.

Pure Prune Juice, two decent sized glasses should have an effect.

I often get “backed up”, due to having had a fair amount bowel removed and recovering from that and also I have to take codeine daily for chronic pain.

Prune juice gets me moving when things get problematic. It might be a bit explosive, but works.

CalzoneOnLegs · 26/12/2025 08:49

@Gonnabefine it sounds environmental, honestly. When are you home ?

Tomorrow. Yes I'm sure it is as I'm regular as clockwork at home. I haven't had this issue before though and I am uncomfortable and bloated and just need a poo!

i had to have 3 coffees - but ii am in my own home and nobody else is up.

CalzoneOnLegs · 26/12/2025 08:58

@Gonnabefine poor you, log jams are so uncomfortable, but I’m sure you will be relieved when you are in your own home, good luck !

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 26/12/2025 09:02

I didn’t used to understand constipation. Surely if you need to, you go! Now I know better. That feeling of knowing you need to but nothings happening is awful.

At this stage I wouldn’t bother. Just wait it out till you are home.

Future visits make sure you drink plenty of water and eat fruit and veg. That’s all you can do, really.
