I think people forget how meat is meant to smell, food has smell to it. Vacuum packed stuff always smells strange

Ok soupy.
We have an organic duck also defrosted that doesn't smell one bit but this came in a silver tray with padding.

I find all of that sort of thing smells funny.

Duck does have a bit of a gamey smell but it shouldn't smell fishy or rancid. It's a fine line, though!

Ladybugheart · 25/12/2025 16:03

I mean...what do you expect dead duck to smell like?

TubeScreamer · 25/12/2025 16:05

Duck always smells funny when taken out of the packaging, in my experience.

SatsumaCandlesCloves · 25/12/2025 16:06

@Ladybugheart well we have a defrosted organic duck and that barely smells at all

The crown has whiffs

Funnily enough I almost posted the same query on here last year. I opened the duck and it had a strange smell but googled this and found that this is common. It wasn’t an off smell but was as you describe it. I cooked and we ate it - it was fine.
