She is 7 and so bloody excited for Santa coming that she won't go to sleep. She's been in bed 2 hours and still awake. I can't take any of the presents down until she's asleep and I'm getting pissed off! Anyone else in the same boat?

Yep. Exact same. My 3 year old was asleep at 7.30. My 5 year old is yelling that she cant go to sleep. I am so exhausted 😭 ive got presents stashed everywhere so need to go on a scavenger hunt when she finally crashes

mushforbrain · 24/12/2025 22:16

Same. 8 year old DS here. I’m lying here with him thinking he’s finally gone but I know the minute I move he’ll reveal he is actually nowhere near sleepy.

HelenaWilson · 24/12/2025 22:19

Don't they know that Father Christmas won't come as long as they're awake?

I remember never being able to sleep at Christmas as a child- I used to pretend in the end but was always secretly awake when my parents brought the stocking into the room.

My children and 11 and 8 and are wide awake upstairs but are quiet and chilling. I’ll make them go to sleep at 11 (or at least try). They both know I’m Father Christmas which makes it easier though.

Digglesthedog · 24/12/2025 22:23

Yeah, Santa doesn't come unless you are asleep. And if you're not asleep you better be pretending to be asleep.

And she will be awake at 5am

Bunnymcgee · 24/12/2025 22:26

Yep, I've been lying with my 4 year old for the last hour and a half and she's just not going to sleep! I'm actually scared I end up falling asleep beside her and not getting the presents and stockings out.

ForLoveNotMoney · 24/12/2025 22:26

My 7 year old thankfully crashed out pretty well. He’s usually in bed at 7 but I let him stay up until 8.30 and by the time he’s got in bed and we’d looked at the Santa tracker he was pretty tired. I’ve just put out presents and got in bed myself.

Previous years he’s been a complete pain though so you have my complete sympathy!

Everything crossed for sleeping children for you all very soon 🤞🏻

PurpleLovecats · 24/12/2025 22:28

My brother stayed awake all night once when we were young. He finally slept at 6am, he wanted to see FC! My mum and dad said they felt drunk with tiredness all Xmas day!

westcott · 24/12/2025 22:29

Have the tradition where Santa puts presents under the tree instead of foot of the bed.

although I remember the thrill of seeing a filled pillowcase by my bed ❤️ in the middle of the night.

Orarewedancer · 24/12/2025 22:29

Yep! DS9 can't sleep. He's trying, bless him.
DD3 woke up 15 minutes ago asking if Santa's been. She was only asleep for 45 minutes because it took so long to get her down in the first place!

DS6 is the only one to have gone to sleep and stayed asleep. But it's half 10 so hardly an accomplishment 😂

All the presents are up in the loft. No chance we can get them down without raising suspicion if they're not all asleep. I'm knackered and want to go to bed myself!!

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 24/12/2025 22:31

Some twat near me has been letting off fireworks for the past two hours, as if the kids arn’t hard enough to settle tonight now they keep getting out of bed every few minutes to try and see the frigging fire works. I still have wrapping to do and dh is obviously slow roasting a ham..

Elmspringwater · 24/12/2025 22:34

Its the longest night of the year for under 10s.

Good luck mums and dads good luck.

Brightbluesomething · 24/12/2025 22:35

Yep! I’ve stored the presents closer this year but I still want to go to bed and read for a bit.
I’ve had to have a word with DC1 who’s working and has to clean/lock up after his shift so won’t get home until 12.30ish. He’s going to close his eyes as he walks past the tree when he gets in. DC2 however still likes a bit of magic so she’d better settle soon! I’ve got stockings to fill.

Stickytoffeetartt · 24/12/2025 22:42

Same boat here, they are absolutely wired. We were out today for hours and they had baths before bed but all 3 are still awake!!

DontPokeMe · 24/12/2025 22:51

My 8 year old is actually asleep and has been since 9ish. I'm shocked because previous years have been brutal. In fact last year Santa brought the stocking the following night because her eyes seemed to ping open every time we 'went to the loo' (aka attempted to hang the stocking). In the end we gave up. We were shattered Christmas day!

Presents are under the tree now, but I'm still apprehensive to put the stocking on DC's door just in case.

Best of luck!

Cornishmumofone · 25/12/2025 17:44

This is why my Christmas Eve tradition is to take DD for a tiring swim!
