Who’s cooking this afternoon?

Not much on today so have decided to get a head start on tomorrow by cooking the ham, making the red cabbage, cauliflower cheese and stuffing while DC build the gingerbread house (mostly harmoniously). It’s all been quite pleasant so far with Christmas music on and no time pressure! So I’ve also decided to make another batch of mince pies as have guests on Boxing Day (low key get together but always nice to have mince pies to offer). Cheese and crackers and pork pie for tea tonight.

I did the gammon this morning, the turkey is in the oven, and the giblet stock is in a saucepan and cooling as I write. A bit later on I'm going to prepare all the veg for tomorrow. Everything seems to be going far too smoothly this year - there is clearly something I have forgotten.😂

I’ve made the desserts, made the stuffing and cooked half of it so it’s easy for supper time sandwiches tomorrow evening, ditto some extra chipolatas. Sauce is made as well. Later I’ll prep the veggies and the bits of the canapés that I can do in advance. DH and DS help and it won’t be too much bother. We’re having jerk chicken for dinner tonight and it went in its marinade this morning. Just needs baked and some salad with it.

I do have a touch of Gingerbread House envy but as DS is 28 he’s really outgrown that now!

Boeuf bourguignon for Xmas Eve dinner. There's only DP, DD2 and her DP with their 18 month old and we're having our Xmas meal late afternoon so no rush to prepare anything today! 🎄

I've got roast potatoes in the oven. Making in advance to reheat on Friday.

We’re having individual beef wellingtons (beef filets in pastry instead of a whole loin). Just finished making the mushroom duxelles and seating the filets - will wrap them up in pastry tomorrow.

the dog was very excited.

They shrunk a little during cooking but they look good. Tasted a couple purely for QC purposes!

Me! Just walked dog now having a cuppa before cooking a ham for tonight then doing cauli cheese and red cabbage for tomorrow.

Cherrytree86 · 24/12/2025 15:20

wow, some of you are dedicated!! I don’t know anyone who has the time and/ or inclination to home make puddings for Christmas dinner. Everyone I know just has a shop bought cheesecake or whatever.

MeAndMyGhost · 24/12/2025 15:21

DH just cooked the turkey (we are alone this year so experimenting with cooking practices/times!) meaning tomorrow is just cooking the vegetables. Will def do this for future years!

Sausage rolls will be done on 27th,

Loving this!
