How do you eat?

I know this sounds like a stupid question but I pondered this today

I have ARFID, so food is an issue for me, but when it comes to finishing your food, do you eat until you’re full, and leave the rest, even if it’s only a few bites, or do you force yourself to finish the plate?

I can only eat until I’m full. If I try to force myself to eat it, it makes me extremely nauseous to the point where I nearly throw up, even if it’s 3-4 extra bites

I have learned to stop when full, after a childhood of being encouraged to clean my plate, with tales of starving children in foreign lands.

So now, if I am cooking, I serve smaller portions, and if I don’t fancy it, I stop eating. I don’t like waste, but I hate feeling unhealthy more.

Very smart. My dh is the same. He was forced to
clean his plate every time and was very over weight as child

He is a much healthier weight now

Ditto.

I find also as i get older my appetite is severely diminished. I can't eat 3 meals anymore. Mostly 2 meals and if i eat 'lunch' then that's it for the day.

I'm still 13 stone though so clearly I am getting more than enough.

Same. I go slower now and know when I am full

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 23/12/2025 22:18

I stop when I’m full. I seem to have the appetite of a sparrow these days but unfortunately not the body that goes with it!

MumChp · 23/12/2025 22:18

I don't put more on my plate than I can eat. If more hungre second serving.

RecordBreakers · 24/12/2025 00:20

I'm not recognising this as being a binary choice, as I would only serve myself as much as I want to eat.

So, I clear my plate, but not by forcing myself to eat more than I want to, but by not taking more than I want in the first place.

Before I started weight loss injections I would eat and eat and never feel full and was always hungry

weight loss injections mean I now eat until I feel full and can’t eat another bite after and I rarely feel hungry
