What’s on your Christmas Day menu?

We’ve got more of our family gathering together on Boxing Day for a ‘proper roast’ so I’ve decided to make things a bit simpler on Christmas Day itself. No point (to me, at least) in doing a Christmas dinner only to have another one the next day.

Starter: Smoked salmon and prawn cocktail with sourdough toast.
Mains: Chicken pie (homemade) with asparagus and roast potatoes and gravy
Pud: Baked cheesecake with raspberry coulis and ice cream or Christmas pud with brandy sauce

It’ll still be a bit of a feed but hopefully they’ll be ready for a Christmas dinner on Boxing Day (at another family member’s house).

Just wondering if anyone’s doing anything ‘non traditional’ on Christmas Day?

Warm olive ciabatta rolls with lashings of butter, mayo and Milano salami. Big bag of ready salted crisps, pot of hummus and a whole box of Waitrose brown butter mince pies which I shall be dipping into with double cream - no one to cater for but me and I can eat what I want!

Simonjt · 23/12/2025 19:19

Starter: sod that
Main: well its a buffet really, potato and onion bake, salads, so beetroot salad, pickled cabbage salad etc, stewed green beans, roast vegetable mash, stuffed cabbage rolls. We’ll have a few British bits, so shredded sprouts with nutmeg, some Pakistani bits too, mainly dips.

Pudding, none of us really have a sweet tooth so we’re having saffron pancakes.

That honestly sounds amazing.

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast for brunch, with Bucks Fizz.

Dinner will be individual beef wellingtons, with roast potatoes, Yorkshire Puddings, roast parsnips and sprouts with bacon.

Pudding is sticky toffee pudding with home-made vanilla ice-cream. A non-negotiable in this house!

Steak and chips for our main. Cheese & crackers for nibbles during the day.

I’m working the twilight shift so I’ll have scrambled eggs on toast about 1pm then I’ve treated myself to a M&S lamb and mash ready meal for tea when I’m at work. No Christmas dinner for me this year :(

LevelHed · 23/12/2025 20:08

Probably a pizza. We are in italy skiing.

hedgehoggle · 23/12/2025 20:12

No starter, but we have having smoked salmon and cream cheese on rye bread for breakfast. Probably with tea / non alcoholic mimosas

Dinner is côte be boeuf(!!) with standard Christmas trimmings. Very excited for my huge sledgehammer of beef

For pudding, tiramisu - made the lady's fingers today, although didn't have a piping bag so they look like the knobbly fingers of a wicked witch!

We normally have turkey and I'm excited for a change

Pascha · 23/12/2025 20:15

Cereal and toast for breakfast.
Roast chicken etc for lunch.
Eton mess for pudding.
Whatever we can be bothered with later on.

The local Indian restaurant has advertised they are open Christmas day. Honestly, if we didn't have kids I'd jump at that. They won't have it though so roast dinner it is for now.

mrsfollowill · 23/12/2025 20:47

After years of doing a full traditional dinner fancied a change- there are just 3 of us- DH , me and young adult DS who still lives with us. We have had a few talks about it and all decided we fancy a steak so that's what we are going with- bought from the butchers a couple of weeks ago and vacuum packed so will get them out of the freezer before I go to bed on Christmas Eve.
We've all finished work today and are at various stages of lurgy got my big Ocado order due at 9.30 tonight no subs yay! loads of easy buffet stuff for the next few days on it.
Staying in staying warm and sleeping in for the next two weeks. Poor DS has actual proper flu for the first time so is skulking in his dressing gown of doom with the hood firmly up. He looks like Emperor Palpatine in his armchair.

DinoLil · 23/12/2025 20:52

I can't remember! It's being delivered tomorrow, just me, a fancy pre done meal from a caterer that I just need to heat up on Thursday.

It will probably end up being mostly eaten by the dog. Sigh.
