Help! Child's passport expired, flight 27 December, dual citizens...?

Hi there,

I'm kicking myself so hard about this but we are going on our first overseas holiday all year, to Spain, on 27 December and my 5 year old's UK passport expired in October.

She also holds an Australian passport.

Emergency UK passports for children take a week or likely more.

My reading of the guidance is that it's not mandated for UK citizens without the right documents to have one to travel into the UK until Feb 2026 (is that right?) but that the airline (Easyjet) may not let her board without an ETA linked her Australian passport.

I just went to apply for an ETA for her on her Australian passport but got spooked by the declaration (ETAs aren't for British citizens).

Anyone got any advice for me? Thank you... just want to cry about this...

Just get the ETA ... carry her expired passport just in case. Just act num if asked, didn't understand blah blah ...

She shouldn’t need a visa to enter on her Australian passport.

not sure about re entry to the UK though.

Last time I bought my children into the UK on their EU passports I was told I would need a ETA for them if using that passport. Passport control can’t seem to see on the system that my children have two passports nor do they question that my nationality is different to the children’s. I don’t have the answer to your question but thought that might help.

Etias not required until late 2026.

This has happened to me but with an Irish passport not Australian. We were fine but I was flying on my Irish passport too, so two of us with Irish passports the other 3 on GB
