Rescue dog

So we’re looking at getting a rescue dog next year. We really would like a toy poodle, around a year old.

Can anyone give us advice how to do this please? Any recommendations?

If you want a specific breed then you probably need to be contacting breed rescues rather than general rescues. However breed rescues quite often like to re-home to people with experience of the breed.

What is the reason for wanting a toy poodle? Personally I would work out what your criteria is i.e size, temperament, shedding/non shedding then approach rescues for suitable dogs rather than focusing on a particular breed but then I've always owned dogs of no identifiable breed so I may be biased.

As a rescue it will difficult to find that an exact breed and age. Not impossible, but you may find it a long road.
I would look at specific poodle rescues across the UK and register an interest with them. Hopefully they will be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck!

Try ringing the secretaries of the Poodle breed clubs, you can find their contact details on the Kennel Club website. You may hear via them of breeders that have one that has either been returned, one they’ve run on hoping to show only to find it isn’t suitable ( bit too big, some other minor fault or it just doesn’t like the atmosphere or crowds etc). If you weren’t being so specific about age you could find an older one that a good breeder had been retired from showing or breeding. The thing is to get on the breed grapevine, then you’ve a chance of being passed between members who may know of an available dog.

My partner has had poodles in the past and and knows and like the breed.
We’re looking at toy due to the size, we only want something small. Maybe a miniature would be ok.
He’s had 3 in the past all with good temperaments and easy to train. Also wanting non shedding. Grooming wouldn’t be a problem as he would do it himself like he did the dogs he’d had.

Thanks for your comments I’ll look in to
