What does 'light' mean in the phrase "Blessed are the cracked..."

Do you know this phrase/quote? What's your interpretation of the meaning?

I've always wondered...

A quick Google suggests 'light' means truth, healing, beauty and God's presence.

I think it's about authenticity and vulnerability. If one can be open about their struggles they can be open to connection and healing and acceptance.

I'm not religious so I don't associate 'light' with any deity.

I don't think I've ever heard that saying, but it may be because you don't quite the whole of it?

TeaRoseTallulah · 21/12/2025 11:25

It means that nothing/ no one has to be perfect and those with imperfections still have use and room to grow and improve.

BillieWiper · 21/12/2025 11:27

I'm guessing it means nobody is perfect. And trying your best and learning from your mistakes is also a positive.

I’ve never heard the expression, but my interpretation is that the cracks are the points where the light shines through. You don’t get light (however you interpret it) without cracks. A perfect vessel shows no light. It’s only the imperfect cracked ones. The light is whatever you make of it. Goodness, kindness, authenticity, truth.

Just goodness. Maybe even literally light so you can see.

I understand the cracked part. As most of you have said it's our imperfections.

I like the term goodness as many different things can be taken from it.
