Hate exchanging gifts

All my life I have suffered toe curling embarrassment when physically handing people presents or even worse, receiving them. I prefer to open my gifts in private and will go to any lengths to make sure I am not there when people open gifts I have given them.
My nearest and nearest understand my weirdness and make allowances but sometimes the handing over and receiving in public can't be avoided.
Does anyone else suffer from this affliction or am I a one off ?

I hate it as well. DH’s family does presents one at a time on Christmas morning with everyone watching. I cannot describe how much I loathe it. I get a lot of books (great, love reading), and there is only so much enthusiasm you can muster while reading a blurb before it looks fake. So I spend the whole time stressing that I look appropriately happy about it.
