Short term Loan

Hi,

I hold power of attorney for my mum. She’s not able to make decisions regarding finances now. She’s very comfortable financially.

I urgently need £1000 to fix my roof. Would it be awful if I borrowed it from mum, and then paid it back over 4 months. Mum would 100% have said yes if she was able to.

Yes because it could be seen as financial abuse. Your mum doesn't have capacity. If it's £1000 and you can pay it back over 4 months could you use a credit card or get a bank loan instead? I had the money in my account within 5 minutes of applying on the bank's app last time I got a loan.

Just don't do it. It's not a pot of money to dip in/out of. You know that. Your mum would have said yes but she is not in a position to and you are her guardian now. Get an interest free credit card instead

As much as you may believe that she would have given you the money she can’t now so yes taking her funds for personal use would be a misuse of the funds.

I can’t get any credit as I have a cifcas marker following being a victim of fraud.

I know it’s technically wrong but if I can show I’ve paid it back quickly would it be a big deal?

This would not be ethical. Ask someone you know if u can pay in installments .

Get cash out your credit card?

LottieMary · 21/12/2025 08:45

No - it’s not ok and once you’ve done it you e broken a mental barrier which makes it much easier to do again.
