Someone cut my Christmas lights in half

Last night. Which were on the hedge on our front drive. Just snipped them and then strew them down the street. The first half are still up against the fence and still working.

I'm not sure what offence the snipper took to them, they were fairly tame and never on the mental flashing setting.

Anybody else had any eventful or uneventful Xmas related inconveniences in the build up?

Random but it could be squirrels! We had outrage in our local are Facebook that this happened to some one and worse it then happened again but snipped into tiny pieces! Turned out to be aquirrels. I would never have believed it but there was ring camera footage or some such!

I did question whether it was a squirrel or fox but then I couldn't work out how they would have unembedded it from the hedge on both sides and pulled it down the street 😂

Apparently they like the taste of the soy based coating!

My first reaction was to wonder if they were the awful bright blue ones; in which case I wouldn't blame anyone for cutting them!

I once worked in a remote house and squirrels occasionally bit through the cables coming into the house. Cue no leccy for 24 hours. I guess it sadly didn't end well for the squirrels.

HelpMeGetThrough · 21/12/2025 10:55

There are a couple of people around here I am tempted to do that to.

Its like Heathrow bloody airport at rush hour in our street.

Forever1973 · 21/12/2025 10:55

Is your street one that pissed up revellers would walk down on their way home? Sounds like something someone might think was hilarious when they were three sheets to the wind.

CalzoneOnLegs · 21/12/2025 11:02

squirrels are sleeping at night.

EleanorReally · 21/12/2025 11:04

there is a fence that i drive buy with blue lights and every time i see them, i want to cut the wires

Radiatorvalves · 21/12/2025 11:05

Foxes chewed ours last year. DH fixed them with a bit of solder. So far so good this year… 🤞

RonaldMcDonaldTrump · 21/12/2025 11:05

They are definitely not OTT, normal multicoloured lights (a long string of single bulbs, not the dangly ones). Nowhere near the brightest on the street and never on the flashing seizure-inducing setting.

We only put them up last weekend as we were quite disorganised this year so I doubt it was because someone had been forced to see them for weeks and finally snapped 😂

I'm leaning it to be a drunk or a teen, we are a road that links to a main road so get higher footfall than other streets on the estate.
Lesson learned for next year!

I’ve had foxes biting and destroying lights in our garden - also captured on camera so dragging a string down the road doesn’t seem unbelievable

Squirrels have bitten through two sets of my outdoor lights. They've eaten all my tulip bulbs. They've stashed a load of pine cones in a part of the garden bed. They are a bloody menace!

So, yes, I have admitted defeat when it comes to outdoor lights and won't use them any more. 😕

It's just the height of them that makes me think it's a human
I've always wanted to do a Mumsnet drawing but didn't think it would be for something as boring as this 😅 ( might take a while to show)
