Just that really: what brands would people recommend for coffee beans?

Thanks in advance!

I like A1 coffee - their smooth roast decaf is particularly good. Can't remember where I got it first but I now order direct.

Rebootnecessary · 20/12/2025 12:12

Monmouth Coffee is our family favourite

YOURRMA · 20/12/2025 12:38

Black Coffee

Mozzo! Really rich flavour!

Carvetti.

Illy coffee beans have snob value, especially if you buy the metal canisters.
You can buy them from Ocado.
I live in the home town of Illy and prefer Pellini coffee beans if I’m flush or standard Lavazza Rossa.

But personally I think you can’t beat going to a delicatessen and buying freshly roasted coffee beans. It’s part of the experience to sniff the aroma through the packaging on the way home.
If it’s a gift buy as close as possible to the day.

Coaltown Coffee from Ammanford, highly recommend and Poblado coffi from Nantlle, Eyri. Delicious and wonderful stories and ethics behind each of these businesses.

FestiveBauble · 20/12/2025 13:12

We like Ozone, Tiki Tonga, Hard Lines and Three Sisters especially.

I think it depends what you like in your beans!

Roserunner · 20/12/2025 13:13

My DH loves Rave coffee, he been buying them for a few years now and was happy when we went on holiday to the Cotswolds last year and stumbled across where they are based so managed to go in and buy some in person.

I was going to ask the same thing as Costco seem to have discontinued my favourite.

I like a rich tasting coffee without bitterness or acidity. It’s surprisingly hard to find!

RampantIvy · 20/12/2025 14:06

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Coffee available from Whittards.
My nearest one closed well before covid, but they have re-opened to my delight.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 20/12/2025 14:10

Grumpy Mule. @Halfjob available at Costco!
Rich & smooth taste.

WanderingGiraffe · 20/12/2025 14:13

Another vote for Grumpy Mule (for easily available at supermarkets coffee)

In past years I used to rejoice when my weekly subscription (formerly Hasbean, now changed ownership and name) delivered beans from Yemen. So lovely they almost brought tears to the eyes.

The Indonesian beans were also revelatory.

Now I order from Missing Bean (Oxfordshire based) and am sitting in front of a large mug of Kenya Gloria Special Natural. It’s so moreish I’m not sure the bag will last till Christmas Day. Fortunately I have some Ethiopian Chelbessa waiting to be opened.

There’s nothing quite like Blue Mountain, of course, but it’s so painfully costly here I prefer to only drink it in the Caribbean. (Which doesn’t happen often!)

Probably not what you are looking for but Aldi Italian ground coffee is just awesome. I love the scent when DH does his cafetière on a Saturday morning. Not sure if they do the same one in beans too.

JadeSeahorse · 20/12/2025 16:26

We only drink decaf and the best we have found for our taste - surprisingly - is Morrisons the Best Columbian decaf beans.

They are usually on offer too if you buy 2 packs at once.

MissNowt · 20/12/2025 16:31

Costco’s San Francisco Bay Organic Rain Forest Blend is excellent & v reasonably priced too. Have had Tim Horton’s beans & Dunkin Donuts brand recommended too but haven’t tried them yet.

Tutorpuzzle · 20/12/2025 18:40

The best combination for me is Tesco own brand espresso beans, freshly ground and used in an Alessi stove top moka pot. (I’ve tried loads of different moka pots and the Alessi one beats the others hands down.)

I wouldn’t bother with the faff of grinding beans for a cafetière, might as well have instant.

Yes, we get Aldi Italian beans.

Edgecumbe’s are local and very popular.

I love Pact coffee. I have a monthly subscription of their 1kg bag for my sage machine. Like a (good) coffee shop coffee.

San Francisco Bay was my favourite brand but they are no longer shipping to the UK, too expensive I think. I bought 3 bags of the Colombian before they ran out. I'm now looking for something as good!

I bought some of the Amazon own Colombian which is ok actually, but not as good as San Francisco Bay.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/12/2025 19:19

We get ours from Atkinsons in Lancaster.

Whaaatt??? Oh fek that’s the worst news. I love that stuff 🙇🏼‍♀️

There's another one we get at Costco if Grumpy Mule is out of stock. It's Columbian Arabica beans in a silver packet/bag with a picture of a leopard head on the front. Apologies but can't for the life of me remember the actual brand.
