Good Morning All! What are you all up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. Dd2's sat opposite me waiting for the toaster & the cats have been fed. There's no tinkling or rustling from the Christmas tree, and no noise from upstairs, so I think they've gone back to bed.

We don't have very much planned for today. There's the usual washing to do, a few pots from last night and a quick tidy round. Dd1's at work at 5; she worked a long shift at Southwell yesterday so probably won't be up for hours yet. Dd2 needs to sort her bedroom out again, and wants to try and get the bulk of her homework done.

I'm going to marzipan 3 small Christmas cakes, possibly bake a birthday cake to freeze, and try to disappear somewhere to wrap stocking fillers - we have no upstairs lights til Monday <sigh> so I can't do them tonight.

Other than that, I may start a single peg doll & either crochet or read depending which takes my fancy.

I have no idea what's for tea yet, I'll see who fancies what later - it'll definitely be something beige. Then tidy the kitchen, shower, and read for an hour or two before bed 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

@DilemmaDelilah hope you’re feeling better soon & are able to enjoy Butlins 💐💐💐

To my frustrated shame putting in a few hours WFH to prep for my remaining 2 pre Xmas days at work in an attempt to leave end of Tuesday without it on my mind 🙈 otherwise, cooking a nice piece of beef and trying to stop my cat treating under the tree as a challenge of how many presents can be climbed over....

@AuthorisedCat that sounds interesting! Do report back & let us know what it's like.

Interesting is one word for it!

Any-road-up they are now baked and cooling. I made a rooky error of not spacing them out enough and so some have touched and are a bit deformed. However, the final, final stage (after storing in a fridge in a container with a very slightly damp clothe to soften them) is to cover them in melted dark chocolate which should hide any imperfections. Probably the first and last time I make fermented honey gingerbread. I've broken one open and it has the correct structure so the potash and hjortetaksalt have combined and done their thing.

If anyone wants to have a go at making some (next year as you'll have to start 3 months before Christmas) the recipe is this one https://www.dr.dk/mad/opskrift/honningkager-fra-christiansfeld

You'll have to use an online translation tool.

Right, now off to do the stuff that really needs doing in preparation for Christmas.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Was up early for a solstice walk with dc1, was beautiful!
Then we came back and I went for a very long but very chilly outdoor swim.
Everyone else was up when I got back, I had a hot bath and will now commence some wrapping by the fire. Dh and ds are about to start prepping dinner together because there’s a football match on later that they will want to watch, they are also going out to get snacks for it 😂
Dc1 is at work, dc2 is home from uni tomorrow; the house is feeling all Christmassy and lovely and I’m looking forward to getting a bulk of the wrapping done and putting it all under the tree.
So pretty lazy for us all round. My favourite.

Afternoon all - another busy day! Made a cuppa for me & DH to have in bed around 7. I had to work but only 4 hours. Watched some of a Taylor Swift documentary with DD17 before my shift started. After work, I went shopping in the store for some smaller pressies for DH & a gift for my friend. Always good to be a customer rather than serving! Home around 4 for a cuppa. I was going to peel some spuds for roasties but we don’t have many. DD has just polished off the chips so I’ll go & buy some more as time’s getting on for doing spuds. Can’t keep up with her food intake! Looking forward to The War Between The Land & The Sea on tv tonight. Think it’s the last episode.
