Which films do you like to watch over Christmas?

I don't necessarily mean Christmas themed films like It's A Wonderful Life or The Santa Clause but whatever you find traditional or pleasing. I'm happy with any of the original Indiana Jones trilogy or The Great Escape.

I really enjoy the tacky, pointless Christmas films that are all over Netflix. They are tenuous but festive and I enjoy watching them. For closer to Christmas I watch things like Love Actually and The Holiday or anything British and fun like Four Weddings and a Funeral.

I love Hallmark Christmas movies and would happily watch them year round 🎄

TheTecknician · 19/12/2025 22:25

I do like Trading Places @amber763. It is my second-favourite film.

Not films but my Christmas guilty pleasure is all the one hour ‘Christmas at Highclere’ and ‘Inside Waitrose at Christmas’ stuff usually found on Channel 5.

I like finding other festive stuff too. Click & Collect on Netflix is great and only an hour long, and I’ve just watched Stuffed on iPlayer which is similar feel good stuff.

ElizabethVonArnim · 19/12/2025 22:29

Mainly Agatha Christie adaptations - looking forward to the Seven Dials Mystery and will probably re-watch some old Miss Marples. Casablanca too, if I can get it past DP.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/12/2025 22:30

I like the cheesy Netflix ones when I’m doing something else (like ironing!), but The Holiday and Arthur Christmascare staples for us. We usually try and fit in Die Hard, and I’m a bit fond of Harry Potter at this time of year.

Netflix : dutch film the Klaus family , 3 films

BinLorries · 19/12/2025 22:40

Golden Age of Hollywood musicals, black and white melodramas, anything with Humphrey Bogart, and While You Were Sleeping.

ChristmasHug · 19/12/2025 22:41

I like the first 2 die hards, the first few Harry Potter, Bridget Jones, while you were sleeping (so dated 😂). Movies with Christmas but not really about Christmas.

For the family Jungle Cruise is good, and Free Guy.

Then home alone 1 and 2, muppets Christmas carol, snowman, the animated Grinch one. I used to love Love Actually but struggle with the story lines now and I'm usually very much a 'it was of its time' kind of person.

Also only fools and horses, Ghosts and Vicar of dibley Christmas specials.

Bubbles332 · 19/12/2025 22:41

I like snowy/ wintery films that aren’t specifically Christmas. The 80s version of The Thing with Kurt Russell is amazing. Obviously not everyone’s cup of tea but if you can stomach it/ cover your eyes at the right bits it’s a great psychological drama.

Fargo also great.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles as someone said above.

Cool Runnings.

Kickinthenostalgia · 19/12/2025 22:43

I do a Christmas movie advent… pick my 24 fave Christmas movies and randomly pick one every day.
othe r movies I love to watch over Christmas —- all the ones I watched at this time when I was a kid. Mary poppins, chitty chitty bang bang, bedknobs and broomsticks. They used to be on every Christmas usually between Christmas and new year… so I still watch them now 😆

PeonyPatch · 19/12/2025 22:44

The Holiday❤️

Bsmirched · 19/12/2025 22:45

The Amazing Mr Blunden. I can remember tucking into my selection box on the sofa in the late 70s whilst watching it.

ClottedcreamClara · 19/12/2025 22:48

Most of the above and also The Family Man.

MarxistMags · 19/12/2025 22:52

Where Eagles Dare. Every. Single. Year.

TheTecknician · 19/12/2025 22:55

We can usually expect Where Eagles Dare and The Eagle Has Landed at this time of year. Plus any James Bond stuff. My Mum was a big fan of epic drama, usually war stuff like The Longest Day but also The Towering Inferno and Brief Encounter. Not at all Christmas related but adequate viewing fare for the television companies.
