A Christmas song that actually inspires change

Released in 1980 but feels even more relevant today; how have I not heard Hot Chocolate's "Brand New Christmas" before? (Just heard it in my local shop) It actually addresses the challenges of the world with a call to make the world a better place. It feels inspiring rather than Lennon's Happy Xmas (War is Over) which feels like we are just being told off. It's been added to my Christmas playlist!

All He Wants For Christmas Is A Smurf Hat.

It’s deeper than it sounds. Honest. It’s about the pressure of fitting in with your peers.

Happy Xmas (War is Over) definitely inspires change - I change the radio station every time it’s played; it’s an absolute dirge of a song!

I can’t think of anything that actually inspires change. I prefer slightly more traditional carols, though, which are rarely played on the radio and in shopping centres!

@LighthouseLED 😂I love traditional carols too.

I Believe In Father Christmas by Greg Lake was a top ten hit fifty years ago. It wasn't directly intended as a catalyst for change but it did bemoan the increasing commercialisation of Christmas which was rearing its ugly head half a century ago.

I love the song though. One of a handful of Christmas songs that pleases rather than irks me.
