Australia travel - luggage Q

Hi,
I’m planning a 3-weeks trip to Australia for two adults and two 12yo, we will take several internal flights and I’m trying to estimate how much checked luggage I need to book.
Some places we book will have washing up facilities.
Do you think 2 x 20kg is enough? We have 7kg carry on allowance each also.
Or safer to go with 20kg + 30kg?

We are going early April and won’t need many smart outfits. We are doing Sydney/Uluru/Gold coast/Cairns.

Any tips welcome!
Thanks in advance

Take 4 x 20kg. One each. The flight allowance on internals isn’t as much as international.

If budget allows, the day trip to Lady Elliot island was the highlight of our trip this year to Oz, you fly from Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast.

Don't take anything weighing 30kg, it's too heavy and could be problematic for internal flights. I'd think that two 20kg bags and 28kg of hand luggage would be enough, but if it doesn't cut it, I'd work out what you want to take and split it between three or four bags. Although you're probably getting 23kg per person for the international flights, internal flights like Jetstar often have a cheaper fares if you can stay under 15kg and this will be much easier for the kids to handle.

Are you going to be able to leave any of your things anywhere while you do the internal trips? Or do you have to take everything along with you the whole time?

Thanks for the responses! I’m now thinking we’ll do 3x20kg.
The fare difference on jetstar for 15 vs 20kg is £1 so might as well.

We will have to take everything with us as well travel along I think. We usually stay in the same place, first time organising a multi city trip 😱

Every time I go to Australia I use about a third of what I pack! This year I'm taking a rucksack 😁
