Have you heard of a christmas tree being called this? Hell will freeze over before I call it that. A friend said she'd heard it's a new thing.

Is this a new version of those pesky imaginary Muslims who ban Christmas and insist on 'Winterval'?

Doubt it. Sounds more an Americanism?

I know you were being sarcastic @Quondam BTW. All the Muslims I know either enjoy the festivities or have no issues afaik?

Yes, I was, but in the context of there being a string of faux-naive posts over recent weeks about the word Christmas being banned etc.

We had the whole thing about Christmas trees not being called Christmas trees a few weeks back. Your friend is way behind the times.

Possibly makes sense in America if they put it up to cover thanksgiving too but otherwise a definite No.

Do you mean on mn? I've spoken to others in rl they've never heard of it. Neither had I.

I used to sometimes call ours a holiday tree. I’m Jewish, I don’t celebrate Christmas in a religious sense. And Dh is an atheist. We don’t do Christmas except in a cultural sense. So why not? Latkes are a traditional Hanukkah food, but I don’t freak out when people call them potato pancakes. 🤷🏻‍♀️ That’s fine too.
