I think it’s the floral perfume stuff they put in them. She has other allergies, hayfever, dust etc. can’t use child’s farm products as she’s allergic to those. By allergy I mean mild rashes, itchy all over and constant scratching and eyes watering/nose running. Don’t know what to do. Also have the same issue with washing powders too. Even fairy is a no go

Yes, the "new improved" products can do one for people who react to a lot of things. You go back to square one don't you.

Pashazade · 16/12/2025 14:48

Could she be allergic to coconut? It’s in an astonishing amount of bodycare products, also palm oil (comes from coconut trees!). Soap for little suds is a good source for nice products and seconding moo goo.

RedToothBrush · 16/12/2025 15:00

Aldi own brand powder in the blue box is fine for DH and DS both whom have different allergies! I was recommended it because both were having problems.

DS is allergic to the rose family. Thats a whole pile of fruit and roses. DH is allergic to god knows what.

Have you tried the JASON range?

BerriesPineCones · 16/12/2025 15:11

Ecover do a fragrance free detergent with no optical brighteners.

Wolfiefan · 16/12/2025 15:45

I had a similar allergy. It was awful. I found out I was seriously allergic to Methylisothiazolinone. It is commonly found in liquids such as shampoo, shower gel, hand wash, washing detergent and fabric conditioner. It is an extremely common allergen. Worth avoiding it and seeing if that helps

FcukBreastCancer · 16/12/2025 15:46

Maximum number of rinses
No softener
No scented stuff

My dd is under an allergy consultant. Takes daily medication

FcukBreastCancer · 16/12/2025 15:49

Fairy and persil are far too smelly in my opinion.

Always non bio. Tesco capsules dont smell
Dust filter in room. No carpet
Dust mite wrap for mattress and pillow.

Digglesthedog · 16/12/2025 21:28

I use smol unscented washing pod things. It’s subscription but I don’t itch anymore so I’m happy.

i believe ecover is also good.

for shampoo i usually use moogoo and shower gel i use sanex 0%.

I also find donkey milk soap very good.

and deodorant I use makewaves, only one I’ve not reacted too.

I haven’t read every post.

Have you “stripped” your washing machine? There could be a lot of residue of detergents and fabric conditioner still in there. If you have used the drawer then the pipes leading to are notorious for this.

How much and which antihistamines is she on?

a specialist would recommend something like Telfast in the evenings and then a different one each morning. You need to get on top of it before reducing the dose.

I used to be on 2 piriton at night and then 1-2 Telfast during the day.

Second that, I was on 4 Zyrtec a day for urticaria
now on Xolair which is life changing. My consultant is amazing but he’s Manchester based

Everybodychanges · 16/12/2025 22:06

Elave shampoo, shower gel and conditioner. Own brand non bio detergent and no fabric softener. Everything needs to be fragrance free.

Allergy testing really helped me know what to avoid. I can’t use anything that contains salicylates. I can usually use vegan products. I have to check everything and sun cream is a nightmare because they change the ingredients every year!

Could you say what allergy tests you had? My GP only tested for 4 substances. Thanks.

It was years ago at southmead in Bristol. They don’t do it anymore on nhs (they wouldn’t test dd and we just have to guess). Salicylates are very common so I’m this situation I’d start there. I’m also allergic to nail varnish (eyes swell) and latex triggers my asthma and gives me a very itchy, sore rash.

Thanks. I am allergic to almost all cosmetics and all sun cream. I wear a hat and long sleeves all summer. Also allergic to the so called hypoallergenic ones. I wil look for a private clinic.

NewUserName2244 · 17/12/2025 10:34

I had a lot of allergies as a child.

Id recommend stopping using anything for a few weeks to let her skin recover. Just water in the bath/shower and then water in the washing machine.

The try e45 or simple for shampoo and conditioner and see if either of those work. Try and encourage her to use them sparingly and wash them out really well.

For the clothes I’d try ecover followed by an extra rinse with just water.

Tecklefancier · 17/12/2025 10:39

I have similar problems but found that Aleppo soap is fine for washing both skin, hair and for handwashing clothes. It is the purest soap made from olive oil and laurel oil. It is expensive per bar but because it is very hard it lasts for ages. I have to buy it online because it is usually not available in shops.

Do try it.

Tryingatleast · 17/12/2025 10:44

Persil non bio is the only powder we can use and not the pods!!! Fairy breaks two of mine out in rashes- it seems insane given the marketing but have heard it from a few friends who have eczema in the family. I’d agree to get to an allergy clinic- we spent too many years trying to stumble through this ourselves. For washing hair and body moogoo changed our life (son is 13 if that helps)

Ecover do a fragrance free detergent with no optical brighteners.

As do bio d, cheaper, less toxic and more effective!
Also do a whole cleaning range in non frangranced, I use their handwash as shampoo, works well

TeaRoseTallulah · 17/12/2025 10:52

Surcare for laundry. Don't use fabric conditioner, maybe just vinegar if you need it.

Aveeno has been good also Simple or Dermol.

ImAVolunteer · 17/12/2025 10:52

I am allergic to most things that smell but have no problem with Simple shampoo, and for laundry use Liquid Soap for delicates and Persil non-bio powder for everything else. All other Persil products can still cause problems. Fairy is one of the worst brands I would say.

perfectplumpud · 16/12/2025 08:59

@RampantIvy thanks I will look at that ingredient, how would I go about getting dd tested in such detail? I have no allergies and struggling to manage it all. She can’t even walk past the washing machine atm without being set off.

I'm sorry but this makes me cross on your DD's behalf!
I am allergic to perfume and find it perfectly possible to avoid perfumes at home, which makes me slightly less reactive when I'm out and about. Although I do avoid the laundry/cleaning aisles in supermarkets.
Fairy is one of the most highly perfumed brands so you definitely need to avoid that.

I use Ecozone unperfumed laundry products, soap nuts or washing balls. Green people and Simple do unperfumed hair products there are other brands available. Do NOT use air-fresheners of any kind around your home, if you must, choose genuine natural oils.
It really isn't difficult to avoid perfume so long as you take the problem seriously.

We use Ecover for washing detergent, DD seems to be allergic to all others

We use Ecover too and then Aveeno Kids shampoo and bubble bath.

I had NHS allergy testing years ago but the clinic is now private only. I think it is still possible to have NHS allergy testing but I can't imagine how long the waiting list is.

ThatGreenFawn · 17/12/2025 10:59

Have a look at moogoo. All natural, designed for people with allergies/extremely sensitive skin.

turkeyboots · 17/12/2025 11:01

Im another fan of Ecover here too for detergents. I find non-bio set off my excema contrary to the PPs. Its a case of slowly trying new things.
Soap is better than shower gels for me too.
