Is anybody interested in a biohacking thread?

I have recently become interested in biohacking, the idea that you can reverse aging (kind of) to live a longer, healthier life. I have watched the Blue Zones documentary and am following Bryan Johnson on Instagram (he's a bit extreme, but I do find him fascinating).

Is anybody else here interested in biohacking and want to talk about it?

I’m interested!

ChristmasHug · 14/12/2025 22:37

I keep meaning to look into this. Ive read a bit but will get up to speed then join you. Really interesting.

BastardtheCat · 14/12/2025 22:39

Always like a bit of rebellion, me.

Count me in.

SpicyMargarita1 · 14/12/2025 22:42

Yay! So happy that others are interested. Have you all seen the Blue Zones documentary?

Can you explain a bit please?

AvocadoJam · 14/12/2025 23:31

Yaaaass!
I Love it all.

Would love to hear the little (and big) things people are doing.

I've been using a fitness tracker to hold me more accountable to my work outs and sleep.

Trying to eat less UPF.

Having an ice cold shower when I'm brave enough.

PigeonsandSquirrels · 14/12/2025 23:31

Is this not just dietetics? Not ‘bio hacking’?

Nutmuncher · 14/12/2025 23:32

Most folks could bio hack themselves in a very basic form to ensure you have the best chance of a healthier longer life. Stopping smoking, vaping, drugs, alcohol and eating a balanced diet with good sleep routine will change your life in unimaginable ways.

Unfortunately these are also the things that bring me joy/pleasure so I guess I'll be dead by 70.

  • I was already vegan, albeit more of a junk food vegan. I now cook from scratch, lots of beans and vegetables and tofu, low carbs, so no bread, pasta, biscuits, etc.
  • I've cut down on alcohol.
  • I am drinking more water.
  • Taking daily vitamins.
  • Fresh air every day.

I may watch the thread but I'm wary of misinformation, which seems rampant in the diet and health space.

suburberphobe · 15/12/2025 03:01

@PickledElectricity

I do it all too and am already 70.

Couldn't give a fuck cos I might fall off my perch tomorrow anyway.....

Every day is a gift.

No point doing any of that if you’re continuing to drink alcohol. It damages the very DNA in your cells, disrupts cell replication and repair, digestion and fat storage, increases mutations (cancer) and prevents effective apoptosis (cell suicide that eradicates cancer).

Every time you drink alcohol you’ve done more damage than the good of every other change.

WeAreNotSure · 15/12/2025 09:04

Interested from a sceptical pov.

Walkingwalkingwalking · 15/12/2025 09:48

@PigeonsandSquirrels surely other changes will have an impact? I don’t drink often but do enjoy it on occasion, are you saying I may as well eat McDonald’s 3 times a day as well as have my wine?

SpicyMargarita1 · 15/12/2025 22:48

@PigeonsandSquirrels I literally only drink on special occasions now. So the office party for instance and I will have a drink on Christmas Day.

My take away way from the doc was pretty straight forward tbh. If it grows in the ground, eat it freely but with extra attention on beans and pulses for protein and fibre. Aim for all colours of the rainbow with a decent focus on purple and blue. Touch the soil and grow food, even if it’s only salad leaves. Walk barefoot on the grass. Excercise in a way that doesn’t feel like a chore and keep your legs ( thighs) strong and healthy. Eat live fermented foods. Don’t eat upf. Live your life with purpose and intent, volunteer, help your community and create connections that benefit other
people as well yourself.

I have to sayi agree. I got an allotment two years ago and a greenhouse at home. Is been incredibly satisfying and in summer and autumn I am drowning in organic fruit and veg. I bake my own sourdough weekly and started it in lockdown, also make my own sauerkraut and kimchi. I eat lots of nuts.

A year ago I started volunteering in a non religious hub in my local church and for the last 4 years my sister and I have paid for, cooked and delivered Christmas dinners for our own community for the parents of fussy eaters, older People, shift workers, addicts, poor families etc. we don’t judge. Last year we fed 85 people. We fund raises all year around and also do Easter and free activities and meals for kids in school holidays. It gives me such a sense of satisfaction, I had no idea that serving your community in a completely altruistic way could be so rewarding. It’s definitely increased my overall happiness and life satisfaction after making all of these changes and I’m also definitely healthier now than I was. Mentally and physically.

Fixydodah · 16/12/2025 00:15

Alcohol is a poison, however little you drink. If you are serious about wellbeing and health, it should be stopped completely. You can’t be interested in biohacking whilst still drinking it.
