Neck pain

I’ve had a burning type pain in my neck down to my shoulder for over 2 weeks. I still have movement of my neck but moving my hands above my head feels like a jolt of lightning!

I went to see an osteopath on Tuesday night who diagnosed me with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and performed some manipulations on my nerves.

Since then I’ve had pins and needles and tingly sensations in both arms/hands and legs/ feet on and off. The pain in my neck and shoulder is still there. It feels like a trapped or compressed nerve to me?

I emailed the osteopath yesterday but I’ve had no response and even rang 111 for advice but they didn’t seem concerned and said to make a GP appointment for Monday.

Any idea of what I could do in the meantime?
Just lifting my spoon at breakfast made my hands tingle!

Thanks

I wouldn’t go to an osteopath for neck pain. Go to your Gp initially- they might be able to offer a scan. Are you taking anti inflammatories or painkillers?

It’s a nightmare getting an appointment at my surgery. I will try on Monday though since it’s been ongoing.

The research I did ( mainly mumsnet searches) said that osteopathy is good for nerve pain.

I’ve just been using heat and rest at the moment when I can around working and parenting 😩

Poor you, I had neck pain a few years back and it’s miserable. Try some gentle stretching and breathing exercises, focusing on your tummy expanding. If you shallow breathe then it strains the muscles in the neck. To stretch, look down (towards arm pit) on the opposite side from the pain and hold for 10-20 seconds, then repeat on the other side. To increase the stretch you can gently apply slight pressure behind the head as you tilt. Then gently and slowly do ear to shoulder stretches, and chin to chest. Repeat a few times a day, the aim is to stretch the tight muscles, but slowly and don’t do it if it causes pain. I hope you feel better soon. Xx

No better unfortunately 😩 pain is still in my neck and shoulder and now aching lower back. I’ve self referred for physio as that’s what the gp receptionist told me to do after I rang the doctor yesterday. I can get a phone apt with them on the 8th Jan!

Thanks for checking in x

Sadly it’s come back with a vengeance. Awful neck pain that goes into the base of my skull alongside awful dizziness, headaches and nausea 😏

Not to over worry you, however an ex partner experienced same symptoms in fact dizziness followed by nausea which only lasted all of 2 minutes. Followed by neck pain & a headache, which later transpired as a vertebrae artery dissection causing a brain stem stroke! 4 days later the blood clot shifted & caused a major stroke!

are you able to check your blood pressure?

Hopefully, it’s possibly just a trapped nerve, but some issues can be subtle yet life changing!

it maybe worth getting checked at A&E just to rule out anything sinister especially if symptoms as still persistent.

I’ve had this on and off since December. My blood pressure is always great.

How awful though! I hope he is ok.
