Random question about cats…

how do they decide which part of them to lick?! Our cat has been quite happily chilling on the unit, and then has an ‘emergency lick’ by its waist and then carries on licking other random parts of its body. No fleas as far as we are aware.

Could be skin irritation if they do it suddenly in the absence of any fleas.

Just itchy I expect.

I know if I scratch one part of my body, I immediately get an itch in another part.

So perhaps the act of licking one part can cause the nerves to tingle/itch in another.

Or maybe that bit smells good?

They are cats. What other explanation is needed?

You should only start worrying if the cat lick itself so much it starts getting bald spots. Otherwise they’re just cleaning

My female 16 year old cat will suddenly grab the much bigger younger cat and lick her until she is soaking wet despite protests.
I have no idea what that's all about.

Have you touched the cat? Toasty Boy Cat will sometimes lick the spot where I had the temerity to touch him.

I did touch her with my toes 🤔

Yes this. Cats have to lick the human germs away pronto.

Cats do all sorts of random shit that appears to make no sense.
My 2 never fail to make me laugh every day.
