It’s about a girl who I think has synesthesia. Possibly autism. I think that it’s a mystery book reminiscent of The Curious Dog In The Night.

The drawing on the front is of a brown haired girl in a red coat.

It’s driving me crazy so TIA

And it isn’t A Mango-Shaped Space.

A Mango Shaped Space?

Soduku1234 · 13/12/2025 18:40

Ah sorry just seen you've said it's not that one.

I've not read it, but I know Astonishing Splashes of Colour by Claire Morrall is about a woman with synaesthesia.

Thanks everyone. It isn’t any of these but I’m grateful for all of your responses. Now I’m beginning to wonder if she was actually autistic but I have a vague memory of the novel’s title relating to synesthesia.

Might be better asking this be moved to the books section.

Not The Girl in the Red Coat by Kate Hamer?

Ormally · 13/12/2025 21:10

The Earth Hums in B-flat, author Mari Strachan? Synaesthesia not spelled out but there are suggestions this is in the mix.

Your thread prompted me to remember a book I read about a character with synthesia but I couldn’t remember the title so I’ve just spent half an hour going down a rabbit hole trying to find it 😂
My book was In A Thousand Different Ways by Celia Ahern.
It is set in the UK and the main character is called Alice.
