Things you love about Christmas 🎄

Anyone else in the full Christmas spirit now? What are you looking forward to and what's your favorite bit of Christmas?

I am definitely in the Christmas spirit this year maybe because I got caught up in the early tree hype ( put our tree up first week of December) so things have been more spread out this year rather than crammed into the week before Christmas. I've enjoyed doing a little one or two Christmas tasks daily and feel I have been more organised. Mainly finished my Christmas shopping and have wrapped presents as they have arrived. I am really looking forward to Christmas Eve where we will have a relaxing day/evening with a buffet and Christmas movies. Can't wait for the main day itself when we are having another buffet and giving my family their presents. I am hoping that we get out for a Christmas day walk as that always sounds lovely but for one reason or another we haven't done it before.

Thanks Mumsnneters for all the tips for once I've actually done rather than running around a few days before the 25th.

Everyone getting together. My family and extended family are all very close but having as many of us together as we can is wonderful.

The public holidays from my office job and pigs in blanket flavour crisps. That's about it to be honest.

That sounds fabulous. I hope you have a fantastic time and enjoy every moment.

Our families are now all dead or too far away to spend the time together, but we have friends over, including overnight, I love setting up the tree and the lights, I love watching the old favourites, and indulging in too much cheese. It also feels like a last hurrah, even though we'll have had the shortest day the hardest bit of winter is to come, this feels like a celebrations for batteninng down the hatches.

Time off work, giving everyone there presents, Christmas films and hot chocolate. Spending time with family, Christmas dinner, playing games, 10am drinking, everyone being cheerful, driving round seening Christmas lights, no dieting

Ladymuckypuddle · 13/12/2025 14:18

@youalright that's pretty much my list too except the 10am drinking or I would be in bed by 11am 🤣

@dudsville such a lovely positive post. I've never thought about the half way point before going to keep that in mind when the January blues hit.

Cocktails and chocolate for breakfast, a relaxing day, fire lit and just cooking and listening to music.

JudgeBread · 13/12/2025 15:10

Bucks fizz at 8am being acceptable.

All the delicious food that you only seem to be able to get at Christmas. And roast potatoes, I could live on roast potatoes if I wouldn't die of malnutrition.

Seeing family and friends and actually being social (I save up all my social battery all year for the festive season 😁) festive Karaoke at my local listening to extremely smashed mam's belting out a bit of Mariah is always a joy.

All the stupid festive work things we do, like Christmas bingo and ugly Christmas jumper day.

Putting up the decs and basking in their festive glow.

I even like wrapping presents, I make a big to-do every year about theming my wrapping but everyone always loves them so much I can't stop doing it, so I get increasingly ridiculous every year (this year's theme is A Very Gothy Christmas - black wrapping paper is surprisingly hard to find!)

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 13/12/2025 15:18

We just painted our Christmas mugs to be used for hot choccy on Christmas Eve and coffees on Christmas Day. Now excited to get them back (they need to be fired) and enjoy them! Enjoying watching crap Christmas films and lazing about already. We don’t have any family for Christmas so will just be us and the kids; loads of presents and a beautiful roast dinner . There is so much to love about Christmas, not least husband having an extended time off work. Loads of board games and cheese boards!

IndigoBluey · 13/12/2025 15:31

The way it lands this year is nice, 2 times 4/5 days off work. I’m enjoying working my way through the Christmas films in the evenings, really loved Noelle. I’m having a day to myself to get organised so will pick up some nice things and do some wrapping later. Lunch with a friend next weekend as our Christmas treat to ourselves and I am determined to book a massive to work the knots out of my tense shoulders! I love the time in between Christmas and NY and have no plans so shall plan some quiet relaxing things too

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 13/12/2025 16:30

I love the build up - I think it’s Advent I love, tbh; Christmas Day seems to whirl by in a blur.

I love a Christmas market and a Christmas show (not necessarily a panto, our local theatre are doing Box of Delights this year). I love a carol service, and Midnight Mass. I love seeing all the lights and decorations out.

Yes this. Big get-together Boxing Day. Love Christmas Eve. Takes me back to the expectation and excitement of childhood. Everything in the house felt special. I love the whole season x

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/12/2025 16:40

Seeing the children’s faces and excitement when they still believe in 🎅.
Carols from Kings on Christmas Eve, with mulled wine and mince pies.
The smell of the real tree.
Ditto the turkey cooking on the day.
Trad carols, but also some newer ones, eg The Calypso carol and all of John Rutter’s.
Any little kids’ Nativity, esp. youngest Gdc’s the other day.
Little kids singing Away In A Manger is guaranteed to have me groping for the tissues!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/12/2025 16:43

I forgot, flaming the 🎄pud! And all the lovely leftovers on Boxing Day.
No shopping for a few days!!!

Gentlydoesit2 · 13/12/2025 19:31

Pigs in blankets. Oh, and my children's faces and excitement when opening presents. And sprouts

Ladymuckypuddle · 13/12/2025 20:15

Aww these are all so lovely

The nativity always sets me off every year. You can never have enough cheese 🧀 and wine 🍷

Dd's face and excitement when she wakes up at 5am on Christmas morning. The anticipation of Christmas Eve. Choosing and wrapping presents I hope people will love, especially dd. Being together, lovely food, lots of games, Christmas movies, all the lights and decorations, everything really.
