Children's books with maps, cross-sections, secret trails and stuff like that

I have an 8yo reluctant reader and trying to get him to read a bit more, including independently. I've noticed he's much more interested in books if they have illustrations like maps and secret trails and cross-sections of buildings or vehicles like ships.

Just wondering if anyone's come across any fiction or non-fiction books like this for kids?
