Sick note question

user909866 · 12/12/2025 19:43

I have been off work for 7 days with dizziness, I went to GP on Wednesday for bloods but have not had the results back yet.
I'm due back in work Monday but still suffering with dizziness, I work in a clothes store so very busy at the moment so I know I can't work with the dizziness.
My GP surgery has an online system for submitting requests for sick notes so I filled out the reasons why I need the sick note and why it is preventing me from working. It then asks how long do I need but I don't know how I am suppose to answer that without knowing what is wrong with me.
Sorry if this sounds silly I have never had a sick note before.

Start with a week?

Agree, ask for a week and go from there.

Yes, a week seems fair initially. Then you'll have test results back and know if you might need just a week just now , or a more prolonged sick note.

Thank you I will request a week, I have just noticed that the surgery website states it takes 72 hours to process a sick note, so I won't know until Wednesday/Thursday if it has been approved.
Do I not need to supply my workplace with a sick note as soon as the 7 day self certification is up?

They will backdate the note. Just inform work you have requested a sick note. Try and make a gp appointment and be seen / spoken to.
