Shocked by work colleague - take the piss Friday!

RosieLeaLovesTea · 12/12/2025 18:01

I was at work today and I was getting a few teams chat messages from a colleague. Basically saying she regarded it as take the loss Friday because less people were around and less meetings arranged- she was not working. She said she had order her food shop to be delivered and was going to get her nails done. But would stay logged on in case anything came up! Her Manager does not work a Friday. I feel conflicted she is a nice colleague but she is taking the pee! I feel like I should report it? But the. She would know it was me?

snitches get stitches

Obeseandashamed · 12/12/2025 18:05

It’s the lead up to Christmas… this behaviour is quite common in December 😬I would let it go unless it directly affects you.

Strictlycomeparent · 12/12/2025 18:06

I wouldn’t personally. Companies usually get more than their pound of flesh.

tarheelbaby · 12/12/2025 18:08

If she's messaging you via Teams, there's no need to report b/c it's all there! (that's something I'd NEVER use Teams to say)

I wouldn't report this time but if it became a regular Friday thing, I'd advise her not to use Teams to say so ...

fruitypancake · 12/12/2025 18:08

Agree , I would think this must be common. Shame she obviously trusts you , I can see both arguments

youalright · 12/12/2025 18:08

Does it effect you?

OSTMusTisNT · 12/12/2025 18:08

Keep your head down and keep your colleague at arms length.

It's up to her manager to spot the obvious but be careful you don't get dragged down with her.

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 12/12/2025 18:10

What a shitty attitude she has. Sorry you've found yourself caught between a rock and a hard place on this one. It seriously annoys me when colleagues take the absolute piss and don't get caught out.

amiadickhead · 12/12/2025 18:10

Why on earth would you report this, it's one day, get a life.

ChristmasinBrighton · 12/12/2025 18:11

No one likes a grass @RosieLeaLovesTea

Chinsupmeloves · 12/12/2025 18:22

She's a bit stupid to tell you and taking advantage of her situation. Of course don't snitch, it's just not nice, but feel free to tell her she's being an arse. She will most likely be found out if she's telling others plus teams evidence 🙄

fragglerockrocks · 12/12/2025 19:15

Your IT admins will be able to see, it tracks far more than most people would ever appreciate.
Handy hint, never type anything out, or talk about something on teams that you wouldn't like management to overhear!

Edited to add - Having said that, unless her shopping day directly impacts you in a seriously negative way, leave it.

BossaNovaOnAllNight · 12/12/2025 19:46

God Op obviously you don't snitch? What is wrong with you?

HelpMySocksAreTouchingMe · 12/12/2025 19:56

If it doesn’t impact your work load then don’t say anything. Presumably it’s not every Friday she does this?

Anonanonanonagain · 12/12/2025 21:03

If it is on teams then it is already no secret. I wonder was she scoping you out to see if you are in fact a snitch.

MargaretThursday · 12/12/2025 21:57

I think it depends.

If she normally works well, no problems then I definitely wouldn't say anything. One day out of a year makes no difference.

However in my previous job I was meant to work with someone who was always "just popped to the toilet" "urgent phone call I had to take" etc if seen not working, which was pretty much whenever anyone came in and I was fairly certain that they were doing around 25% of their work load. If asked to prove what they'd been doing they'd have every excuse such as "the computer had a large update" or "Couldn't get it to upload to the OneDrive - had to restart it..."
You can say it shouldn't matter, but it basically meant they took all the good jobs they had to do, and left all the grotty jobs because "they didn't have time" so I ended up with a double dose of the jobs no one wanted.

So I'd be in two minds if they were already a bit of a skiver.

Surprised this thread hasn't been spotted by the usual anti-WFH brigade! I find Fridays are a good day for getting stuff completed as generally fewer disruptions!

That sort of language is unnecessary. It doesn’t make you look big, just rather unpleasant.

Natsku · 13/12/2025 07:47

Unless it affects your workload I would just ignore it.

I did basically no work all day yesterday and I was physically in my workplace (didn't have the materials needed to do my tasks so not my choice really). Took 4 coffee breaks and my lunch break and went to the shop and still managed to find time to be bored out of my head.

I didnt say anything to look "big", triangular or strawberry flavoured.

You have an issue with free speech - thats a "you" problem.

Discuss the topic at hand, not me.

Thanks.

Your language was unnecessary. The only reason people use language like that is to try and look big. It’s not a ‘me’ problem at all.

If you don’t like people talking about you, I suggest you don’t go around using disproportionate language. Manners and good language cost nothing 😊

Again, stick to the topic.

You have a problem with words - you are not the vocabulary or word Police so dont try and project onto me.

Your pointless posts have been reported.

I really couldn’t get exercised about this. It’s the lead up to the end of the year, I’ve worked my arse off for my company this year whilst also dealing with a bereavement. Did I do much work yesterday whilst I WFH? Nope. Colleagues might think I was slacking yesterday (they won’t have done - everyone was on a go slow). They are free to take it up with my manager (who would laugh in their face). I would think them a dick. Like those tell tales at school. Urgh.

Don't be that colleague OP.
