Shocked by work colleague - take the piss Friday!

I was at work today and I was getting a few teams chat messages from a colleague. Basically saying she regarded it as take the loss Friday because less people were around and less meetings arranged- she was not working. She said she had order her food shop to be delivered and was going to get her nails done. But would stay logged on in case anything came up! Her Manager does not work a Friday. I feel conflicted she is a nice colleague but she is taking the pee! I feel like I should report it? But the. She would know it was me?

I love wfh Fridays because I can get so much done as no meetings and lots of peace and quiet.

I don’t see anything wrong with having shopping delivered and have been known to get my hair cut during a break.

Surprised this thread hasn't been spotted by the usual anti-WFH brigade! I find Fridays are a good day for getting stuff completed as generally fewer disruptions!

Oh they’ve found it 🤣

Sleetwaves · 13/12/2025 13:52

I think it depends a bit on your job, in my role there are certain high pressured times of year where I work loads of long hours and we don’t get TOIL or overtime as we’re paid to deliver an outcome. However in quieter periods I wouldn’t feel guilty about taking a longer lunch break to get my hair done or logging off a bit early on a Friday. But if your job has a more consistent workload like customer services etc I would see why you are annoyed.

It’s output not hours worked and thats to her manager to manage. People like this are always found out in the end. Especially as she’s being so blatant about telling you.

OP you don’t know if she works evenings, weekends etc so let this one go.

💯

I have a health condition presently which causes intense nauseau at times and if I’ve not managed to meet my expected output in terms of activities required to keep my project on track, I will log on in the evening once feeling better. Managers aren’t dumb and will know if you’ve been frequently slacking not necessarily because they’ve been micro managing log in times but through outputs especially in my field where the goal is always to manage and meet project deadlines and deliver on schedule. But whatever the role, there will always be some kind of expected measurable outputs that people are held to.

@RosieLeaLovesTea i don’t know why this is stressing you so much and I wouldn’t get involved. You said her manager doesn’t work Fridays but unless you’re her deputy I’d stay in my own lane.

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 13/12/2025 14:08

This was me yesterday. Although my boss was very aware as he told me to take it easy as we’ve had a busy few weeks and I more than pull my weight.

Unless it directly impacts you OP I’d let this one slide.

MaryBeardsShoes · 13/12/2025 14:12

I wouldn’t say anything but I wouldn’t go out of my way to cover for her if asked directly.

All those talking about “snitching” need to grow up and cop on to themselves.

anonymoususer9876 · 13/12/2025 14:20

After reading ‘snitches get stitches’ I thought I’d walked onto a primary school playground. Why adults still say that I don’t know. Things aren’t as black and white as that.

Is she taking the pee? Well that’s between her and her manager tbh. If she’s done all her work and is staying online to deal with anything else that comes up, then I don’t see much of a problem with that. I’d presume her manager was happy with that arrangement?

What’s the ethos of the company? Get the work done (incl working longer hours if necessary) and then take TOIL or is it one that expects you to work core hours whatever your workload?

I can’t believe the number of people saying don’t snitch. This is dishonest, theft even. It is taking money for not working. I wonder if this is private sector or public sector?

I really think at a time when working people are getting so heavily shafted to pay for those who don’t work at all, this will not be a common view. It really is rather pointless to work hard for promotions or bonuses in the U.K. at the moment.

IDontHateRainbows · 13/12/2025 14:41

I call it 'stealth toil' I work like a slave mon to thurs and then relax it a bit on Friday. Still get my work done so who cares....

BillieWiper · 13/12/2025 14:43

But why report her? It's not impacting on your workload. Why not just do the same on days when it's not busy and your boss is off.

If the work wasn't being done they'd obviously notice and pull her up on it.

I certainly wouldn't want to go around being the office snitch. All it will mean is the boss might get stricter with everyone including you.

And your colleagues will blame it on you for instigating a more Draconian working environment.

Tryingatleast · 13/12/2025 14:44

Will they not know because of the absence of work done or will she not have to make up for it? I do t know why you feel you have to tell!!

ChocolateCinderToffee · 13/12/2025 14:44

I wouldn't report her. At some point, she'll give herself away - or someone else will.

HappiestSleeping · 13/12/2025 14:45

tarheelbaby · 12/12/2025 18:08

If she's messaging you via Teams, there's no need to report b/c it's all there! (that's something I'd NEVER use Teams to say)

I wouldn't report this time but if it became a regular Friday thing, I'd advise her not to use Teams to say so ...

I hate people who put you in a situation where you have to be a mug or a bitch. It really annoys me.

In this category are people like this who confide about being shitty employees. But also men who say ‘can I get a lap dance on this stag?’.

Don’t put me in a position where I have to decide whether to be op-faced and humourless or a mug/soft-touch.

It’s December so I’d leave it. But if she does it in January I would tell her it puts you in a difficult position and to please not share like that.

Edited

I agree so much. I just don't need to know stuff that could end up making ME feel awkward. Having flashbacks to the whole class punishments we got in school.

I get embarrassed and go red easily. Imagine a question like "who knew about this" etc..

Indeed.

OPs colleague was clearly fucking stupid to post it on Teams to her.

OP should screenshot and send to said colleagues manager/HR and let them deal with it.

OPs colleague is a workshy and work-time stealing CF Cunt.

Does it affect your work load? Personally I would just leave it

Not every workplace is like this.

If you have an IT department, then everything can be tracked. The bigger the company, the more tools they'll employ to watch for things.

Just because they can doesn’t mean they are 🤷🏼‍♀️

I know, but you'd be very surprised. Every place I have work have done random samples, especially since covid. The OP's experience demonstrates why.

Really. Can’t fathom people like you.

Go ahead. She’ll tell everyone. See what happens then 👍
