Anyone under 65 thinking of the flu jab

BlueberryOats · 12/12/2025 15:12

My local pharmacy had 6 under 65 jabs left today and doesn't know when they are getting any more in, so today is probably a good time!

They were going to phone people who had booked next week (me) to tell them to come in now.

Luckily, I figured it was going to be cancelled, as my covid jab was also cancelled today, so popped in.

No we are in our 30s and not considering it.

I only had the jab once while pregnant.

FurForksSake · 12/12/2025 16:09

I had mine cancelled multiple times in October and November and then had surgery so couldn’t risk a fever. I’m now a few weeks post surgery and can’t decide whether to try and get it next week. Whole house has had the jab but me!

LuckyNumberFive · 12/12/2025 16:09

I book mine in October every year, only £16 at Tesco.

Edit to add- mid 30s

Hmmm I’ve left it too late I can’t find anywhere in stock.

FurForksSake · 12/12/2025 16:14

Just booked for Tuesday in Asda a town or two over. None left to be had where I am. I’m glad that means uptake is good with the news of how bad it is this year.

ohtowinthelottery · 12/12/2025 16:14

DH got one done today. He missed out on the free NHS one as he's 5 months too young. After watching the item about flu and vaccines this morning on tv, I suggested he might like to get one. He went to the 3 pharmacies in our local town and the 3rd one did it there and then. I'm a few years younger than DH and was thinking of getting one. There's appointments still available to book online at 2 local supermarkets.

CraftyNavySeal · 12/12/2025 16:19

33 here, got mine a few weeks ago free through work. Never had it before but fed up getting sick everywhere so glad I got it

Drachuughtty · 12/12/2025 16:20

Yes I have, I get one every year, worth every penny.

BloodyHellBob · 12/12/2025 16:23

Apparently there were none available to me because I don’t fall into any of the groups that are getting the vaccine. I’ve been looking at all pharmacies within a 10 mile radius. Now I’m currently lying in bed, aching and feeling miserable because I have flu. Bloody wonderful.

MarbleDrive · 12/12/2025 16:23

I’m wishing I had one. I had whooping cough last year for what seemed like forever and I really don’t want anything chesty.

Minty25 · 12/12/2025 16:25

My local pharmacy had no under 60 doses left last week but agree to give me the stronger over 60's dose with my consent which i accepted.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 12/12/2025 16:25

I get one every in sept /esrly oct every year.
I have no idea why you wouldn't I'd pay £500+ not to have flu!!!!
I had it twice in my 20s and it was absolutely horrendous. Like truly....

My ghast was flabbered by the post on here recently where a lady seemed mildly hysterical about the flu but yet hadn't had the £20 vaccine because she didnt know you could buy one...

StationSquare · 12/12/2025 16:29

Yeah, I'm 50 and I booked one today online at a nearby pharmacy for Monday. Couldn't get one at Boots, the web site was up and down like a yoyo, saying there weren't any appoitnments until Jan, then saying there were, then crashing - but I found a non-Boots pharmacy that seemed to have loads of appointments, I wouldn't be surprised if I get there and they are just "?" though. DH had one due to health reasons. DS should have had one at school but he wasn't where they thought he would be (due to mocks and music practice) so he missed out which was annoying, maybe they will come back.

I think it's a good thing for anyone to have - they aren't just for the individual, but to stop more people catching and spreading it

I never understand why it isn't a general roll out, obviously that costs, but I'd have thought the reduction of pressure on the NHS / and avoiding disruption to other healthcare would be worth it

Local pharmacies most likely have it -

RandomMess · 12/12/2025 16:30

I had mine some time ago, booked as soon as my notification came through. Found out I’m eligible for shingles and pneumonia jabs too. Feeling very decrepit!

Graciously · 12/12/2025 16:32

Got mine yesterday. £24 well spent

Because just like the covid jabs it doesn't actually stop you getting it nor spreading it 🤷‍♂️

Iliketulips · 12/12/2025 16:49

Work cover a flu vaccination for us, so I've already had mine. DH has been going on for the last month about getting one, and got around to it yesterday afternoon - just as well he did as my friend walked in the same pharmacy this morning to be told they'd run out.

Sartre · 12/12/2025 16:52

I don’t really feel the need to. I’ve had the flu once to my knowledge and it was awful but it was also over 20 years ago, I’ve got away with it since so figure this year won’t be any different. I’d rather someone who genuinely needs it have it. My DC have had them.

DrCoconut · 12/12/2025 16:56

I get it via the GP due to an underlying condition.

NoExchangeBeforeChristmasThen · 12/12/2025 16:56

I had mine just after I turned 50 which was 2.5 months ago. I’m entitled to an NHS one as a carer, have been for years & have always taken it. Same with the Covid boosters - think this is the first time there’s been one available that I haven’t been automatically entitled to

Aaaallthefood · 12/12/2025 16:56

Frustratingly I really want mine (and work pay for it) but it seems impossible to get! Every boots locally has no appointments and I suspect the smaller ones don’t do it at all anyway, it’s just on the main site. The Asda here no longer does it, and my only local pharmacy will not allow a ‘private’ jab to book an appointment, it’s drop in only, and it’s one of the busiest pharmacies going, so goodness knows how long I’d be in there, on a working day/ non working day with a toddler!

PinkFootstool · 12/12/2025 16:59

Got mine the week before DH deployed for four months thank goodness. It's only me and the dog, but I have limited people to fall back on for dog care if I end up bed ridden.

The last time I had Covid I was in bed for a week and I'm only early 40s!

scaredfriend · 12/12/2025 17:01

I paid for one in Boots at the end of September.
