Lost engagement ring insurance claim

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone could help me, I lost my engagement ring (absolutely bloody distraught if I’m honest I’ve had it for nearly 20 years) and I’ve claimed off my home insurance.

They have offered me a Goldsmiths voucher (I haven’t accepted yet) but looking at the website there is literally nothing like my old engagement ring and none of the other rings jumped out to me to say buy me. I am also struggling to find one of a similar carat weight.

they are going to call me back later on this afternoon but would I be reasonable asking for a cash settlement so I can not feel pressurised into buying something from Goldsmiths

I know a cash offer will be lower than what they are offering me

Depends on your policy

i would check it and understand their obligations
Even if policy isn't that favorable i would decline and try and negotiate.

The cash shpuld be the insurance value surely?

I would explain it to them and see what they say. I'm sorry you've lost it. That must be upsetting.

The booklet says:

we can choose to settle your claim by
~ replacing
~re instating
~ repairing
~ payment

replacement will be a like for like basis based on the nearest equivalent in the current market, we will only pay you what it would cost us to repair or replace it.

I’ll speak to them later and see what they say, they don’t have any of the carat size on their website and everything just looks wrong.

i am probably just so deeply upset that I lost mine and nothing will actually be the right ring.
