I wish people would stop mentioning my 5 foot 3 height like im an outlier.
I cannt believe I married my ex. I needed to be in a mental hospital not marched up the aisle.
I dont care if my child is clever or not.

Imagine being able to trace the journey of a hand cream won at a raffle 😂 how many times it’s been regifted, how many charity shop shelves it’s graced all because each person wants to pass on the responsibility of binning it. It’s like a new level of “pay it forward” pay forward the guilt of binning unwanted tat so you can sleep at night.

I'm fairly sure at least 4 of the tubes of gifted handcream lying unused in my drawer came from the charity shop. God knows how old they are. I'm sure the giver thought they were doing two nice things by giving some income to a charity and giving me this. But used or not, it all gets produced, shipped around the world and ends up down the drain.

Too much dried fruit in everything at this time of year.

I love it, but my raisin-hating sister would agree! Among the billions of "alternative" variations on mince pies, Christmas puddings etc, nearly all are still raisin-based.
Waitrose used to do a fantastic chocolate and hazelnut Christmas pudding but they stopped making it along with the amazing almond speculaas biscuits.

KrazyboutKillian · 14/12/2025 09:36

@WalkingWavy
we do a £50 secret Santa too , but to save any angst deciding what to buy someone , each person has to list 3 things if approx £50 that they like , and the buyer chooses from the list
so your present us still a relative surprise

my issue with Xmas is after hosting for yrs ( and enjoying it ) I have given myself this yr off , and not one person from the previous group has offered to host , so fuck em ,
my Christmas in future will be doing what I want , baileys , telly and lazing about

If this is happening all over the country/world what an environmental fucking catastrophe.

My thing I wouldn't say in real life (and probably should) is that this is bloody shameful and sums up the consumer/waste monstrosity that is the modern commercialised Christmas.

I know. Absolutely no excuse for not taking to the charity shop.

Report him to who anonymously?
Do you think there is some organisation who police whether or not old people can drive?

Yes, it’s called the DVLA, it’s an established process.

It's rude to comment on height whatever the height is, but what is there to say about 5'3? The average height for a woman in the UK is 5'3!

WhineAndWine1 · 14/12/2025 09:52

@RessicaJabbit I am not pretending though. They are shit and will continue going in the bin.

I can’t get over the amount of people that are getting so wound up about what other people do with gifts they didn’t give them.

MrsB2025 · 12/12/2025 14:43

I know. You’re absolutely right and that would be absolutely the right thing to do. Even writing this I know I sound like a horrible person. But I can’t add extra admin and tasks to it as someone might find out that’s what I’m doing so I just secretly dispose of them. And I’d never get round to it so they’d just sit in a pile until next year. I know it’s a terrible thing to do.

Drop to the nearest homeless charity they'd be so grateful or womens domestic violence refuge

WhineAndWine1 · 14/12/2025 09:54

Another Christmas thing that can get in the bin (unless it’s due to being actually skint) “We are only doing presents for the children” stop being tight and buy gifts for people. I can’t imagine my niece or nephew getting to 18 and just stopping giving them a gift.

Gribouille · 12/12/2025 14:24

I like your style, @JudgeBread !😆

My DH thinks I need strict instructions on watering the Christmas tree, even though I spend the rest of the year tending, feeding and watering the both of us, the cat and every damn plant in the house and garden...

I'm going to let the cat lick his turkey this year. 😸🦃

My dh once took it upon himself to water our big 🎄while I was last-minute shopping on Christmas Eve. It was in a large bucket of wet gravel, and I’d wrapped red crepe paper around the bucket.
We had fairly recently had new lightish green carpet laid.
Guess what happened when he over-watered it and the water ran down the red crepe paper? 😱😡

I'm not understanding the hate for toiletries. Use them up and then recycle the packaging. Job done. And with the cost of living these days, maybe people might be more grateful for them than previously!

Maybe if you had read the thread you would get understanding?

But who would buy them from a charity shop. That poster has a point about the packaging being waste regardless of the product being used or not.

I only ever buy shower gel type gift sets, stuff that folk actually use. I do use hand creme but it takes me forever to finish one.
Infact I'm at the point of binning when I have too many kicking around, half used.
Just like lip bams.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 14/12/2025 10:12

I can’t stand any of it. I was seriously ill last Christmas and couldn’t go anywhere or do anything. It was great to have zero responsibilities. I’m doing well now but haven’t picked up any of the previous shit I was expected to do. It’s great!

Gardenalia · 14/12/2025 10:12

Christmas is bloody wonderful and I’m looking forward to it tremendously, but I do feel a bit trapped by my adult DCs obsession with keeping up all the family traditions. And I’m fucking livid that my snooty son-in-law has yet again found a reason to not participate this year.

Do they have baths at the shelters? Is there a way of checking?
Otherwise I would feel a bit of a tit donating sparkly bath bombs.

You could use them as body lotion to avoid binning them. Would use them up much more quickly.

Just ring them up. Also, I'm not sure, but I wonder if women's refuges might be more likely to have baths, and the poor women who have to go there might appreciate sparkly bath bombs if so.

pictoosh · 14/12/2025 10:19

Or a gift set of chutneys?

"Sorry kids, it's chutney again."

It sounds daft because it is.

NewNameforThisPost2025 · 14/12/2025 10:23

I have found the solution for all unwanted Christmas toiletries, including bath bombs. A charity called Toiletries Amnesty whose aim is to tackle hygiene poverty.

WhineAndWine1 · 14/12/2025 10:32

@pictoosh exactly!! I love a certain chutney that i buy lots of when I’m passing by the shop that sells it (long way from home) but I will never reach the stage of wanting Jam and Chutney for a present.

zingally · 14/12/2025 10:36

I went freelance 8 years ago, and a BIG plus is no longer having to attend work Christmas functions!
I don't drink at work events - never have - and the event was always boring and miles away from home. I don't like having to drive in the dark, I don't like dressing up, I don't like having to pretend I give a shit about these people I'm being forced to spend the evening with. I didn't like most of them during work hours, I certainly didn't like them in my personal time!

mamabluestar · 14/12/2025 10:41

I'm so pleased that my SIL's Christmas plans have turned to shit.

Last Christmas day, around the table, she announced her and her DH wouldn't be at ours this year (after we've hosted them and their DC every year for over a decade).

You have to elaborate; what were they planning on doing instead and how did it go to shit? I’m a big fan of schadenfreude so need to get my fix where I can 😉

Not to be tricksy, but why are you annoyed that they wanted to stay at home? There must be a reason.

Where do you think “recycling” ends up?

Erm, it gets re-used?
