I want a coffee machine for someone who doesn’t drink coffee

I want a really easy, not too expensive coffee machine for guests.

I don’t drink coffee and no one in my house does, but I have a couple of frequent guests who do and would like to serve them a nice cup rather than instant which I’m sure must taste awful as it never seems to stir in and looks awful 😅

Is there a super easy pod type of solution (or similar!) I can order that will make a perfect little foamy cup that coffee lovers will be happier with?

Nespresso. Go for the smaller pod version then you can get capsules in supermarkets. Machines start from 50quid ish

We have a Tassimo - lots of pod options (inc hot chocolate) or you can buy a reusable pod and put your own coffee in it. It's small and compact, and v easy to use.

Cheap Tassimo machine, about £35, the pods are £4.50 ish for a box in Asda usually on some kind of multi-buy offer. Fill tank with water, put milk pod in, close lid, press button and get foamy milk, then put espresso pod in, close lid, press button and you have a latte.

i drink lots of coffee (so very very much) and i love my Tassimo machine, i have the middle price version that lets me adjust strength and size of cup, but that’s not necessary for very occasional use.

Could you just get a cafetière and some nice coffee to go with it?

Purpleandredandyellow · 10/12/2025 21:47

Vote for Nespresso here too! So easy and perfect coffee every time

You don't get the foam with a cafetière though

InfoSecInTheCity · 10/12/2025 21:48

Problem with nespresso is it doesn’t do lattes/cappuccinos from pods. You have to steam the milk either with a nespresso machine that has a built in milk wand or with a separate device, if you’re just looking for a pod solution with easy to find pods then it would need to be Tassimo or Dolce Gusto.

I personally think a cafetière and decent ground coffee is better than a Nespresso machine.. and cheaper and you don’t have an extra machibe!

Agreed and if you want to make it fancy warm some milk and get one of those little battery whisks to foam it before adding to coffee

Crumpt · 10/12/2025 21:50

As a guest, I'd much rather have a cafetiere so I can have a top up (or make one for myself in the right circumstances, which feels far cheekier and more complicated with a machine).

Myfridgeiscool · 10/12/2025 21:50

Cafetière coffee, I agree, is much nicer.
Much more environmentally friendly too.

Get an aero press- husband has been using his every day for years , you can spend as much or as little as you like on ground coffee to use with it and it doesn’t take up cupboard or worktop space.

as a coffee drinker I’d be happy with cafetière or even coffee bags (just like tea bags) they’re often sealed individually so that’s better than opening a big load of grounds and they go off.

Flakeortwirlboth · 10/12/2025 21:51

If you get a Tassimo or a dolce gusto you can get tea and hot chocolate pods as well as coffee pods.
