What are these spots?

Bigredspots · 08/12/2025 06:33

I've woken up today with these itchy, sore spots on my back. Google brings up too many pics of spiders so I thought I'd ask here!
No sign of bed bugs anywhere, plus none of us have been away anywhere.
I did spend yesterday in a fairly dusty kitchen/village hall.
Cam anyone help please? I feel fine otherwise.

What are these spots?

Hoping for a bump as no replies! I now have a couple on my stomach as well. I still feel fine, slightly runny stomach this morning but fine.

Had anyone else had a sudden breakout like this just on the torso? Could it be stress/perimenopuase related?

No change of washing powder, no signs of bugs etc.

Have you had chicken pox? One looks a bit blistery

Bigredspots · 09/12/2025 21:12

@paulhollywoodshairgel I have, had it really severely as a baby. My brother had it twice though, the doctor said it almost never happens but it did so I guess it might be?

I would've guessed at chicken pox too. I see you say you had it badly as a child, so did my DD but when her immunity to it was checked as an adult she was found to have no immunity.

Rocknrollstar · 09/12/2025 21:16

Shingles?

WinterStrls · 09/12/2025 21:34

Impertigo? Or is that only on the face? My teen dd had spots like that but only on her face and the pharmacist gave her antibiotics

Bigredspots · 09/12/2025 21:50

I would have thought chickenpox too esp as I have a child in Reception but he doesn't have it and nothing reported at school.

Not sure re shingles as I feel fine otherwise. I wouldn't even know they were there if I couldn't see them if that makes sense - no pain or itchiness now.

I think I'll see a pharmacist tmrw just in case I need any cream or they recommend GP!

I think they look like early chicken pox too. Hope you feel ok. Stock up on Calamine lotion if you are feeling very itchy.

FollowSpot · 09/12/2025 21:56

Looks like Chickenpox to me.

Bigredspots · 09/12/2025 21:56

@WildCherryBlossom thank you. No itchiness at all. I really hope it's not as I've got so much over the next couple of weeks and I would never have expected it given I've had it!

I’m guessing chicken pox and everyone always says you only get it once, which is true in my case but I’ve had shingles THREE times.

TimetodoEverything · 09/12/2025 22:00

The pox also my guess. I think when you have it so young you have a higher chance of getting it again. But hopefully your existing (low) immunity can help it be less severe…. Good luck!

justasking111 · 09/12/2025 22:06

I had chicken pox at 7 really badly and again at 18 mildly.

YourZippyHare · 09/12/2025 22:09

They look like some kind of bug bites to me. I'm not medical, mind.

If you feel fine and they're not spreading all over the place, surely it's nothing to worry about.

Bigredspots · 09/12/2025 22:09

Thank you all! I hadn't considered it as I've had it but you're all right. It does look like the pox.
@justasking111 My brother had this too. A bad bout age 3 and a mild bout age 14ish.

I was only 6 months old when I had it and NHS website is saying babies under a year don't develop a strong immunity.

Just have to hope my 4 year old doesn't get it! He's got all his Reception Christmas things and his birthday to look forward to over the next week and a half!

@YourZippyHare that was my feeling ag first too which is why I didn't come back to bump the thread. But two more have appeared on my stomach tonight.

No bugs in the house that I can see!

Dr13Hadley · 09/12/2025 22:12

DH had this. Thought it was a spider bite. GP diagnosed shingles (then DS1 got chickenpox a day later) have you felt more tired lately? That can also be a symptom of shingles.

Everyone's running with the theory now! I do think you'd feel ill with chickenpox or shingles... if it's getting worse tomorrow or you feel unwell, it's probably best you get medical advice, as not many of us here are qualified and we're all just online.

P.s. do you have pets and have you checked for fleas? Just treated our cats and I have loads of bites, probably why my mind is going that way. But there could have been insects in the church hall... or at home, you wouldn't always be able to see them.

Chiefangel · 09/12/2025 22:24

It could be dust mite bites/allergy if you were in a dusty place.
I think you’d feel really poorly with chicken pox.
Have you tried an antihistamine.

Bigredspots · 09/12/2025 22:28

No pets no. The new spots appearing make me think it's not a bug or spider bite now, although I did at first.

I don't feel tired at all, only other unusual thing was a runny stomach this morning.

I know most people aren't qualified medical professionals but it's a helpful place to ask as a starting point, as the breadth of experiences is so vast.

Chicken pox is my best guess now given new spots are appearing and they're all on my torso but I'll send pics to the doctor tmrw and see what they say!

@Bigredspots is the mystery solved yet?

Bigredspots · 10/12/2025 20:46

@justasking111 no! I went to bed thinking it's chicken pox but spots are fading today, no new ones. My husband had 1 on his stomach this morning but none of us ill and no new ones for any of us.

So odd.

I randomly had chicken pox last year, despite having it as a child and also having had kids who had it a couple of years previously

it itched like hell though. I thought it was hives for a few days. Eventually a nurse pointed out the “dew drop on a rose petal” classic sign. (Have a Google)

By about day 3 covered in spots felt really exhausted with it, initially wouldn’t have said I felt much different

id had radiotherapy and think it was probably due to that

Toddlerteaplease · 10/12/2025 20:57

Chicken pox!

Ikeameatballlunch · 11/12/2025 06:41

It’s possible your immunity faded a bit and this is a new or different strain.

I was v confused as to why on earth I had cp last year and someone did say both these things can happen
