I watched the final last night, their skill was amazing, tactical playing
i also used to watch it as a teenager, with my family
including Pot Black
growing in popularity in China too

Yes.

Iwiicit · 08/12/2025 06:28

I loved watching it when I was a primary school child, along with One Man and his Dog. I can totally ace any quiz questions that come up about 1970s and 80s snooker players.

Not a fan as such but I find it very soothing. Reminds me of having a newborn during some snooker event and it was our background telly, perfect to nap on the sofa to.

JonSnowedUnder · 08/12/2025 06:55

I got quite into in my late teens/early twenties. People were always surprised when I mentioned it. I don't really watch it anymore but will occasionally if it on when I put the TV on. Ronnie O'Sullivan was always my absolute favourite.

ShouldKnowBetterButNeverLearn · 08/12/2025 07:06

Yes, it always reminds me of my grampa who was a huge snooker fan. Great memories.
My DH thinks it's boring but I totally disagree, can be so exciting and tense.

Also been watching a lot of darts recently as DS has been playing it, can be exciting too! Also much faster pace.

samlovesdilys · 08/12/2025 07:14

I really really don’t, appreciate the skill but the noise of the balls hitting really unsettles me, I can’t have it on…

Friendlyfart · 08/12/2025 07:21

I go to see it live every year at the Masters but not as keen on watching on TV. Dh watched the final last night. It’s so different live, the atmosphere is fantastic.
I also used to watch it in the days of Pot Black (I was a teen!!).

EuroTour · 08/12/2025 07:23

Surprised it finished so early with Selby playing 😉 love watching it - yesterday was perfect - Lakeside darts and UK open snooker.

CeeJay81 · 08/12/2025 07:25

Yeah been a fan for past 30 years or so! Was an entertaining match yesterday. Didn't That's watch all of it but quite a bit. That freeball/not a free ball was crazy. Fair play to Selby for agreeing with Trump and not the ref.

EleanorReally · 08/12/2025 08:13

Selby nearly paid for t hat decision though

No. Only maniacs enjoy watching snooker.

CrushingOnRubies · 08/12/2025 12:14

Yes! I find it quite calming, and soporific. Apparently I get it off my great dgm who loved it.

ExquisiteDecor · 08/12/2025 12:25

I don't often watch now but do find it relaxing when I do. I grew up in the Pot Black / Ray Reardon / Alex Higgins era and who could forget the Dennis Taylor triumph in 85, half the country stayed up late watching it. I don't have a current favourite player but dip in and out. We are big darts fans so that has taken over our viewing to a large extent.

Livpool · 08/12/2025 18:08

DH loves it so I sometimes get involved and support a couple of players. I find it quite soothing

WhineAndWine1 · 08/12/2025 18:17

No it’s one of the worst sports to be televised. My DH has this habit of clapping like a seal when there’s a good shot.

Middlemarch123 · 08/12/2025 18:52

It’s very soothing and nostalgic for me.
My late dad, who was my world loved it, he played too. I remember being a teenager and him watching it, he liked Jimmy White and Steve Davis. We had a gorgeous big family cat, who watched it too. He used to sit up close to the telly, and when a player potted he’d run round to the back of the tv to catch the ball. Daft thing. Happy days. Struggle to watch it this year, reminds me of my dad too much.

blankcanvas3 · 08/12/2025 19:15

I do, I just find it really relaxing to watch. I only watch the triple crown events but when they’re on I’m glued to the television

Meadowflower2023 · 08/12/2025 19:20

I love the snooker. I haven’t been to any yet this season. The tickets for the semi and finals sell
out so quickly! Trump did well to pull a few frames back last night but just didn’t quite do enough. Pleased for Selby though. It finished earlier than I expected.

macshoto · 08/12/2025 19:26

Watch the highlights as and when they appear on YouTube.

EllieQ · 08/12/2025 19:39

Yes, I used to watch it with my dad who was a big fan and played snooker for his local pub team, and I still enjoy watching a bit now. It’s very nostalgic for me.
