It would depend on what class of hotel and how many transfers, but I’d guess between £3-4k.

Personally, I think I could get it for less than that booking everything myself, but depends really what you’re after in terms of the sort of trip you want.

Jjustsancs · 07/12/2025 21:01

Don’t bother

Newsenmum · 07/12/2025 21:03

Around £2,000

Setyoufree · 07/12/2025 21:03

I reckon 4-5k

travailtotravel · 07/12/2025 21:04

3k ish. Check out Inside Japan- they were excellent.

walkingnightmare · 07/12/2025 21:09

How about adding the Snow Festival in Hokkaido to your trip? Get a Japan rail pass and stay in a temple for a different kind of experience www.japan.travel/en/guide/temple-stays/. I agree with the 3K to 4k estimates, but you could easily bring the cost down by staying in temples and youth hostels, if cost is an issue. That way you get to meet more people too.

Thanks for the help so far - I'm definitely not one for hostels or bonding with random people! I'm a 90% loner...

Not fussed about how fancy the hotel is as long as I have privacy and peace. I'd like to do Tokyo and two other destinations for variety but not more than that really unless a third stop over is for airport convenience.

Flights are from circa £1000, currently there’s a free internal flight offer. Hotels vary depending on location and quality, assuming basic but en-suite around £100 a night on average, no food, more if you want a higher quality.

user927464 · 07/12/2025 21:20

I’d also say £4k

VegQueen · 07/12/2025 21:23

£1k flights (possibly cheaper options via China), £1k accommodation, bullet trains are expensive maybe £2-300 for those if you’re going back to Tokyo to fly home. Then spending money, it depends on you. Food can be very cheap or super expensive. I think £3k would be comfortable.

friedaddedchilli · 07/12/2025 21:29

5k
