Should I let work know now?

I work in a small unit of 5, although on Mondays there are only three of us. One is off long term. We get on very well and we protect each other's downtime by not messaging about work on rest days.

I've woken up feeling really ill with aches, fever and cough. I really doubt I will be well for tomorrow, leaving 1 person with the same amount of responsibility. I did it myself when same colleague was off a few weeks ago and muddled through ok but I did find it quite stressful only being told an hour before the start of work.

Is it better to wait and respect co workers downtime while risking her stressing tomorrow morning or should I give her a heads up now and affect her weekend? Our manager is the person off long term.

No, don't contact them on their day off, it will only piss them off!

Ok. I'll leave it. I would have preferred to know the day before which is why I wanted to see what others thought.

If she normally relies on a colleague to cover whilst she does the school run or by knowing a day earlier, she could make other arrangements then yes, I'd text.

If it just means she too will have to muddle through on her own, then no. Just text tomorrow. Just not at 5am like my work colleague has done! And no, she wasn't sick, it wasn't urgent- it was to tell us all that she'd bought new shoes the day before! 😡
